This drive connects to your system using its integrated micro-USB 3.0 (micro-B 10-pin) port and provides data transfer speeds of up to 160 MB/s, while also being backwards compatible with USB 2.0. In addition to its storage capabilities, this drive has also been equipped with dual front-mounted USB 3.0 Type-A ports, which can be used to recharge your tablet, smartphone, or camera, as well as back up files, even if your system is turned off or in standby mode.
Seagate’s Backup Plus Hub is compatible with both Windows and Mac systems. It is pre-formatted for Windows and Mac compatibility requires the downloadable NTFS driver for Mac. Once installed, this drive can be used interchangeably between Windows and Mac without needing to be reformatted. Also included is downloadable Seagate backup software, a 4′ micro-USB 3.0 to USB Type-A cable, a power adapter, and a complimentary four month membership to Adobe’s Creative Cloud Photography Plan.

Bought this to backup an internal 8T drive that stores all my video and photos. Took about 10 hours or so to backup 2 T. Its a USB drive so I didnt expect it to be done in 30 minutes. Its fast enough to stream music and even 4 K video without stuttering. You won’t likely find a better option at $150. Shipped fast as usual from B&H. Thanks

I bought 2 of these and one of the Mac ones. The Mac one had the multi-adaptor for power, but this one only has a power adapter for the US, which means more outlay of cash just to be able to use the drives.

I have been running one of these on a Mac for about a year – flawless. The MyBook was in service the same length of time and has started to fail. The Seagate manual says to download an app so that you don’t have to reformat for Mac. I prefer to reformat and not use an intermediate app. Easy to do in DiskUtility. New unit up and running in just a few minutes.

Outgrew my 5TB drive, and this is the replacement. The drive is silent except for the occasional light chunk of the drive heads moving. I get about 120 MB/s read/write speeds via the USB 3 cable.

Transfer rates appear to slow when you put mode data on it. Tax (GST) for Malaysia was originally calculated on an incorrect deivery charge. Fortunately this was fixed before delivery. Much appreciated – FedEx.

I was really excited to receive this large hard drive to back up my video files. The only down side I can say is the installation. It wanted to use the Seagate software that was on the drive. At first it didn’t really work properly, but finally got it working with some experimentation. Now it works great.

I use this drive to back up all my photos, which, as time goes on and photo files get bigger and bigger with every increase in megapixel resolution, works very well. Moreover, I really like the USB hubs (there are 2), because I have the drive on my desk and the hubs are therefore easily accessible. I actually own three of these drives and I love everyone of them. The oldest is at least a couple of years old and it continues to perform flawlessly. I’ve had trouble with other brands, but Seagate’s products haven’t let me down yet.

While I usually have good luck with Seagate products, this one is a disappointment. The unit was slow. One bulk transfers I could hear constant hard drive noise and the transfer rate rarely went over 70 Mb/s. Other USB 3 drives handle bulk transfers at speeds over 170 Mb/s. This one was returned as defective and I went with a competing brand (with much better speeds).

This HD gives me a place for the second backup of my initial backup, using Time Machine. It required re-formatting for Mac, using software available from seagate/paragon. I was a bit confused about whether it required a firmware update, and sent an email message to Seagate, which was answered promptly. (Since the HD is powered by the computer, it doesn’t require an update.) Seagate’s customer service has always been excellent. I’m about 2.5 feet away from the drive and there’s very little sound when it’s backing up. I haven’t used the two USB ports on the front, but they are a worthwhile convenience, since I’ve filled up all my slots on the 7 slotUSB hub. And I checked the sectors of the drive before backing up and everything was fine. As always, B&H is very reliable.

Used this on my new computer for backups. Easy to connect and use. Backups are inherently slow so write speed is of little consequence for my application. I copied the backup to a second hard drive connected via one of the USB 3.1 ports on this drive. Easy as dragging the file from one folder to the other. 180 GB backup file copied to second drive in about 90 minutes. I was surprised it copied that quickly because of my experience with an older computer and older hard drive but my new computer has USB 3.0 as does this drive and the drive to which I was copying the file so I am very pleased with its performance. I think Seagate puts a variety of different drives inside the enclosure for this product. The drive inside of mine is a 5400 RPM ST8000DM004 Barracuda according to my CrystalDisk utility. Some customers report having received 5900 RPM drives but this one has 256 MB cache and TGMR recording technology (which may be similar to Shingled Magnetic Recording (SMR) according to some sources though to me it seems to be a form of Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) which is evidently superior to SMR in terms of speed of overwriting existing files).

Great product and great support from Seagate too. I bought a second one because I liked the built-in USB hub and when my first one quit working I ordered a second. Upon arrival, I tested the first unit with the new power supply and found that the first one was still good, so all I needed was a replacement AC adapter for my original. I contacted Seagate and they gave me all of the specs (barrel size, amperage & polarity) I needed in order to order one. Now I have 2 working drives and I’m using one of them strictly for video files. These are a fantastic value.

So far this external hard drive is my blessing from the sky. Its capacity of 8TB for the outside dimensions is superb. Have is running for long periods of time without any slow downs. The only thing that I’m not too enthusiastic is the fact that it has preloaded programs that may be necessary but don’t used then or not fully used.
