Store, access, and edit up to 12TB of data, whether at home or on-the-go, including documents, music, movies, photos, and more with the 12TB Backup Plus USB 3.0 External Hard Drive with USB Hub from Seagate. This drive connects to your system using its integrated micro-USB 3.0 (micro-B 10-pin) port and provides data transfer speeds of up to 160 MB/s, while also being backwards compatible with USB 2.0. In addition to its storage capabilities, this drive has also been equipped with dual front-mounted USB 3.0 Type-A ports, which can be used to recharge your tablet, smartphone, or camera, as well as back up files, even if your system is turned off or in standby mode.
Seagate’s Backup Plus Hub is compatible with both Windows and Mac systems. It is pre-formatted for Windows and Mac compatibility requires the downloadable NTFS driver for Mac. Once installed, this drive can be used interchangeably between Windows and Mac without needing to be reformatted. Also included is downloadable Seagate backup software, a 4′ micro-USB 3.0 to USB Type-A cable, a power adapter, and a complimentary four month membership to Adobe’s Creative Cloud Photography Plan.
Note: The free Adobe membership is redeemable during product registration and must be redeemed within one month of registration.

And the only reason is, that the hd does NOT come partitioned with enough room to install on a Mac OS. You also cannot repartition through the disk utility. You must MANUALLY repartition the drive using the Terminal app and enter code. You can find the code online, but it does take some searching for. If you feel confident that you can do this, the product is great. If you need a plug & play…I’d probably stay away.

Who doesnt need more USB ports! I partitioned one TB for TimeMachine and 3 TB for storage. So far so good as it sits there quietly doing what its designed to do.

Set up plugged into my iMac for back up for it and it works fine but I wanted it also as a local network back up never could get it set up.

Despite several online search results hinting this drive is PS5 compatible, it is in fact not. This drive lacks support for USB SuperSpeed, which is a requirement for PS5 external USB drive compatibility. Also the hub feature of this drive is an additional factor that may impact compatibility and performance. One might expect the port on the back of the unit to be a direct interface that bypasses the hub, but that does not appear to be the case. In my tests I saw average write speeds of approximately 27MB/s for write 200MB/s for read.

We use a lot of these drives, mostly for backup and editing HD video. USB is too slow when editing 4K, but until the price comes down on Thunderbolt 3 drives, these remain an attractive alternative.

Performs exactly as expected, would be nice to know if the HD is a Enterprise version, didn’t see it in the specs. Happy Camper.

Nice HDD, fast, but very noisy. I have a 3TB Seagate and they do not compare in terms of noise.

Our old backup drive was on the fritz and causing our backup server to freeze. Once I installed this one, the issue stopped. We are using it to back up several Macs in our office and it works great.

This is my sixth Seagate Backup Drive Ive purchased over the past several years to archive and backup my extensive photo collection, as well as archive and backup files for my business, as well as running Time Machine for Mac on one of them. All six still running and Im impressed by their reliability.
