Store, access, and edit up to 6TB of data, whether at home or on-the-go, including documents, music, movies, photos, and more with the 6TB Backup Plus USB 3.0 External Hard Drive with USB Hub from Seagate. This drive connects to your system using its integrated micro-USB 3.0 (micro-B 10-pin) port and provides data transfer speeds of up to 160 MB/s, while also being backwards compatible with USB 2.0. In addition to its storage capabilities, this drive has also been equipped with dual front-mounted USB 3.0 Type-A ports, which can be used to recharge your tablet, smartphone, or camera, as well as back up files, even if your system is turned off or in standby mode.
Seagate’s Backup Plus Hub is compatible with both Windows and Mac systems. It is pre-formatted for Windows and Mac compatibility requires the downloadable NTFS driver for Mac. Once installed, this drive can be used interchangeably between Windows and Mac without needing to be reformatted. Also included is downloadable Seagate backup software, a 4′ micro-USB 3.0 to USB Type-A cable, a power adapter, and a complimentary four month membership to Adobe’s Creative Cloud Photography Plan.
Note: The free Adobe membership is redeemable during product registration and must be redeemed within one month of registration.

I have a 2TB Seagate Backup Plus drive and never had an issue with it, so I felt comfortable purchasing a Seagate 8TB Backup Plus. The 8TB drive is constantly freezing up my computer and cannot be accessed through Windows Explorer. It freezes the computer so bad that it won’t even restart or shutdown, I have to shut the computer down manually by holding down the power button. After I restart, the drive is accessible, but if I set the computer down for a few minutes, it’s undiscoverable again. I know the 8TB drive is the problem because if I unplug its USB cord everything unfreezes. I contacted Seagate customer service, they told me to run diagnostic tools that may result in the loss of all my data at my expense to recover. They also said if my drive needs to be replaced, I may receive a refurbished drive instead of a new one. On January 7th, I told Seagate all of this is unacceptable and that I’d write a review in a few days time if they didn’t resolve the issue. I have received no response.

plenty of room (for now) of files

Seagate makes excellent external hard drives, and this is no exception. The 10TB Backup Plus USB 3.0 performs fast and reliably. It is an asset for people with significant numbers of files (such as a photographer). Files can be retrieved easily and quickly, and backup is simple and effective. The USB hub is an added bonus. I am considering getting another one, and would certainly recommend it to others.

I have 3 of these and they all work well.

Could not be easier to setup…3 minutes and I was done. Love the USB 3.0.

From what I can tell this is abnormal and not typical. Not every single one of these Seagate backup plus Hub Drives will be faulty, but it seems to have a higher number of failure than other backup drives. Now I’m stuck having to deal with Seagate hardware warranty which is 2 years and having to find a solution for storing my data while not having the drive. As always B&H is super helpful, I purchased it for work while budget was approved but didn’t use it until 3 months later when I needed it. This is when I discovered the issue. You would expect transfer speeds of 150 MB/s or faster with anything over 50 MB/s being decent enough to transfer files at a reasonable speed. Currently it’s taking me over 2 hours for 31.3 GB which is just unacceptable – you would expect faster speeds from USB 2.0 btw.

I bought two of these external hard drives to store my pictures on to replace two 5 TB Seagate drives. I have never had a Seagate hard drive fail and these seem like they will be more of the same. The USB 3.0 hubs are also an advantage. The new Seagate Toolkit is much better than the Seagate Dashboard that came with my older drives and it also works on my 5 TB drives. Seagate is an excellent option for storage.

Took it out of the box and started up. Downloaded Mac softfware and was up and running. Very fast compared to all the other products in the past I have purchased. Came with USB 3 to 2 connector which I needed. Quiet, super soft hum.

I bought 2 of these and one of the Mac ones. The Mac one had the multi-adaptor for power, but this one only has a power adapter for the US, which means more outlay of cash just to be able to use the drives.

The jury is still out. Immediately after installing the drive, an annoying popup with the Seagate logo appeared asking me to format the drive. It stated that one could click on a block to not ask this question again and then click on cancel. After much communication with Seagate Support and reformatting the drive (at their recommendation), an process that took 48 hours, the pesky popup is still with me. I give the drive two stars, because I think Seagate Support is woefully inadequate. I’m sorry I purchased this drive.

This external Hard Drive works as expected as a backup storage unit for my photography.

I have an Apple computer and had problems with Western Digital external drives. The Seagate works perfectly. Great drive. Mark

This is an excellent backup drive for photos. However, the transfer rate is a bit slower than I hoped.

I originally bought it to expand the storage of my PS4, but found out later that it can’t support drives with built in hubs like this one. That was a letdown, but I just decided to just swap it with one of the non-hub external drives on my iMac. That fixed the PS4 storage issue, but when I plugged this drive into my iMac, it refused to initialize it, so I couldn’t format it or do anything with it in Disk Utility. I swapped it to a Win 10 machine and it worked fine, but even after reformatting in exFAT then iMac still wouldn’t recognize it. To get it to work on the iMac, I had to resort to using Terminal to manually rebuild the MBR and reformat. Once that was done, it’s worked perfectly on the iMac ever since… it was just a bit of a hassle to get it working.

I do volumes of Adobe creative suite files. I often need to reference templates and files that are years old, and from different locations. I thought apple cloud was the holy grail. I was wrong. I won’t even start with the cloud issues. I will say having 4TB sitting on my desktop is stress free. The Mirror function of this drive is very nice. The two usb outs are awesome. I also have the small 4TB Seagate doing Timemachine. These drives are small enough to travel, large enough to hold years of work. So far, no broken links in my video or design files. That was my main cloud issue. I will not be going back to cloud. cons: This drive is not lightening fast. When you search for something, it doesn’t give you that snappy flash drive search that you’ve come to love. Just be patient, it will get it.

Seagate has been reliable for me for years. This is in addition to other 4GB external drive filling up and 2GB flash drives used for travel that are already owned. USB hub a nice addition, providing more easy versatility. Special pricing the real draw to a timely purchase. B+H characteristically with great service.

I hope to grow into this 10TB hard drive. I am tempted to buy another to have an extra back up for all my photo’s. So far so good. It seems to be working well.
