This HD gives me a place for the second backup of my initial backup, using Time Machine. It required re-formatting for Mac, using software available from seagate/paragon. I was a bit confused about whether it required a firmware update, and sent an email message to Seagate, which was answered promptly. (Since the HD is powered by the computer, it doesn’t require an update.) Seagate’s customer service has always been excellent. I’m about 2.5 feet away from the drive and there’s very little sound when it’s backing up. I haven’t used the two USB ports on the front, but they are a worthwhile convenience, since I’ve filled up all my slots on the 7 slotUSB hub. And I checked the sectors of the drive before backing up and everything was fine. As always, B&H is very reliable.

The additional built-in USB ports are darned handy! Other than that? It’s a Seagate external drive.

This drive seems to be fast and works as a drive should. Two things bother me about this drive: I own 2 other Seagate 4-TB drives, and they get done copying my files and stop making sounds. This 6TB drive keeps on clicking for many minutes after it shows 100% copy of files or folders. Does this mean that it is not really done copying? And, second, I am still running Win 7 Pro, and every once in a while the shortcut icon to this drive shows up with a question mark over it on booting up which stays there until the next boot, although it seems to work OK as a drive even with the question mark.

I love my new Seagate 4 TB external hard drive with USB Hub. I opened the box, found all the parts carefully wrapped, unwrapped them, plugged the cable into my computer & the external drive, and started downloading movies to the external drive. It worked flawlessly and the movies downloaded quickly. I have several other Seagate external drives about 5 years old, and they are also working flawlessly today.

Got it in mail, right on time, Plugged it in to my Mac. I had to set it up so the Mac could read it. intialize it, (I expected that) works perfectly. No problems, works as expected. Love the extra USB hubs

It’s nice that it doesn’t have a separate power switch, just plug it in to turn it on. I keep past project video files on it. Good storage for a great price.

Drive is fast. However, you can hear the hard disk performing read and write operation. Other than that I am happy.

Was easy to setup and partition on my Mac. Doesn’t make much noise and the logo LED isn’t too bothersome. So far it’s been solid and transfer rates line up with what the advertised specs. Great desktop backup solution. Highly recommend.

So Far so good, I’ve transferred over 4TB of archives from a four auxiliary hard drives and a cloud server that had evolved out of several generations of computers & photos & trips & shows & letters and 40 years worth of stuff. Now I’m ready for the next 30 years. I’ve had Seagate, Maxtor which I think is now Seagate, Hitachi not to mention every line of computers that’s existed before they had auxiliary HD. Auxillary HDs are much more reliable that cloud service because if you lose your connection you can still work. I’ll probably buy another to backup the backup eventually. I also bought an APC Back-UPS Pro 700VA Battery Backup & Surge Protector.

We got this in the “Deal Zone” for a great price. Ran out of room on a couple of 1tb secondary drives so we got this. Transfer of each 1tb drive was relatively quick. We have it connected to our RAID drive for “easier” access. Works well so far.

Seems like a good solid drive. Starts on boot-up so no on/off switch which is really redundant anyway. Comes formatted for Windows and Boot Camp and you can configure it to do Time Machine backup on installation or of course you can reformat it for Mac, but that removes the Boot Camp ability so you will not be able to start up in windows from the drive. Since I’m Mac only I reformatted it into two equal 4 gig partitions and use one for Time Machine and the other for data storage. The drive works seamlessly and quietly and so far I have had no trouble with it. Seagate is usually a reliable manufacturer so I do not expect anything to go wrong but 8 gigs is a lot of info to lose, so fingers crossed meantime. The USB hub up front is a nice addition but not sure if you get USB3 speeds out of it, but it’s very convenient to have an extra input now that the drive is using one of the ports on my Mac

Easy to install. Took a little longer for backing up the computer on the firdt time. After that you have to figure out the backup setup.
