Small enough for a loaded laptop bag yet spacious enough for loads of content, the black 2TB Backup Plus Slim USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from Seagate combines portability with useful file storage. Formatted as exFAT and compatible with Windows and Mac right out of the box, this drive connects to systems running Windows 7 and higher or macOS 10.11 and higher using its micro-USB port and an included 18" micro-USB to USB Type-A cable that is compatible with USB 3.0 and USB 2.0. It is powered via the USB bus, which means that no additional power supplies are required, and also features plug-and-play functionality, meaning that no additional drives are required for use.
Also included with Backup Plus Slim is downloadable Toolkit Backup Software, which lets you backup on demand, schedule automatic backups, and mirror folders for file management. Take advantage of a 1-year subscription to Mylio Create to organize your photos and protect, edit, share, and sync them across multiple devices, and use a 2-month subscription to Adobe’s Creative Cloud Photography Plan to edit and create using Lightroom CC and Photoshop CC.

Using this as a backup drive for a Mac, no major issues, stays on, makes no noise, and seems to work just fine with Time Machine.

After reading some of the negative reviews here I guess I should consider myself lucky that the Seagate 1TB drive I bought in October 2018 lasted as long as it did. It was reliable until it suddenly and prematurely* died one day last week. There were no warning signs — I was minding my business one night when I got the error message about disconnecting a drive improperly, but I had not disconnected it. I checked the USB ports on the back of my iMac and verified that the drive was still connected. Various attempts to get the iMac to recognize the drive failed. It was dead. RIP, little Seagate. We hardly knew ye. *I am assuming that this kind of product should not keel over and die at the tender age of 2+ years.

Device whirrs and clicks…computer does not recognize. Useless.

Who does NOT want an extra 2 TB for just in case? Good job Seagate!

I take lots of photos of birds and other wildlife for my children’s books. Love the hand-sized but large capacity storage, blue so it is different from other drives so it is easy to spot. I have to back up my photos on several devices so I do not risk losing any.

Seagates have always been very reliable… use them all the time for work, in both 3.5 and 2.5 forms. Highly recommend them over any other brand.

Works like a charm right out of the box! I only needed it to offload some videos & photos and it works great for me. Unlike some storage devices I have, this drive doesn’t heat-up too much. I don’t have to worry too much about leaving it plugged-in for too long.

I have bought 4 of these now over the past 2 years to back up my files. They work super easily on windows 7 and Linux mint. I have had no failures or corrupted data so far. They are very lightweight and thin.

I bought 2 of the 2TB drives. One is set to automatically do a daily backup of important data, the other to use as storage for video files in NTFS format. Works great for both!!

Works as expected and Seagate drives are often on sale, beating the competition on price.

I have had several of these and they work very well and seem to have good longevity.

Initially thought that the hard drive would automatically format to my Macbook. Issue was resolved with simple research.

I use these to back up old projects and files. I’ve never had any issues in my seven years of video production. Definitely, a cost-effective way to make sure your files are safe!
