Very big 5Tb capacity in your pocket. In my 2019 mac mini read and write speeds between 130 – 140 mbps. Very Good speed for a traditional spinning disc. Nice and discret design.

I plugged the 5TB Seagate into my new iMac as soon as I received. I use it for Time Machine backups and it works great, right out of the box. I have several 2TB Seagate portable HDs which I used with my 2011 MacBook Pro but they were plugged in periodically. This is the first time I will be able to make full use of the Time Machine app since it will be plugged in 24-7. Everything it does is not obvious to the casual observer which is fine because it means that the 5TB version is a device that does its job seamlessly. No trouble, no fuss–an unsung hero. I won’t be switching HDs or concerned about backing up my iMac and that’s exactly what I wanted. (The blue color is a bonus.)

Nice to have 8 Tb of storage. A little awkward cable set up but works fine for Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner when attached to my iMac and is reasonably fast. I had trouble when attaching it to my network via the router (Asus) but this is probably due to file format or my incompetence.

Great Speed, small size… and plug-in and ready for mac.

Speed is about 120mb/sec max, on large files. I actually use this internally on a desktop. It seemed like it was very well sealed so I didn’t bother trying to crack it open. USB3.0 is 5Mbits/sec and SATA is 6Mbp/sec so nearly the same speed, but oh, this drive isn’t anywhere close to that so USB3.0 is fine for me. Cord could be longer but doesn’t constitute a star reduction.

If you have used a Seagate external HDD before, the quality didn’t change with this one. Thickness is about twice the 2TB external HDD (pretty slim). Nice exterior finish.

As a photographer, I need lots of accessible data storage, so after reading the reviews I decided to buy it – and I’m very happy with it. First, it is the size of a paperback novel. It comes pre-formatted for mac (yes I bought the mac version) so it really is plug and play. I was impressed that it uses the Enterprise level internals so it should be well built. It also has two powered USB ports on the front, so if your laptop lacks ports, you can plug in external devices through the 8TB drive. The drive itself is almost silent. Some say it’s a bit slow for running applications, but if you think of it as storage for your data, then you can leave plenty of room on your computer for the applications. I had no discernable delay in reading large images or video straight from the external drive. Overall this is a well thought out and stylish storage solution.

Seagate is only one of two brands from which I will purchase this type of electronic. Very easy to use and is always dependable.

I am using it as a Time Machine backup on my imac. I am not using the software that came with the product and just formatted it for the OS I have.

This heavy-duty backup is great. It backs up on an ongoing bases and there isn’t any setup needed for the Mac.
