I work photography and video that consume a lot of hard disk space, as soon as I finish each job I backup them on these hard drives for future orders from my clients. I have six 5TB discs and they have never failed me, highly recommended

These little Seagate drives offer lots of storage for the price, and are powered by the USB connection (no power cord). A great solution for a laptop or desktop.

I purchased October 2017, now fail lost 7tb of data. This is second Seagate fail, I never purchased more than 10 years, unfortunately I purchased this and I will regret rest of my live by purchasing another garbage Seagate. I just ordered safe WD external harddrive only one fail all 20 years used.

Speed is about 120mb/sec max, on large files. I actually use this internally on a desktop. It seemed like it was very well sealed so I didn’t bother trying to crack it open. USB3.0 is 5Mbits/sec and SATA is 6Mbp/sec so nearly the same speed, but oh, this drive isn’t anywhere close to that so USB3.0 is fine for me. Cord could be longer but doesn’t constitute a star reduction.

Good overall value (as of May 2020) for storage and size, and I think a decent choice for secondary backups. I needed to reformat it for Time Machine, which was easy to do. Seemed a bit slower than expected for the initial backup, but once past that it should be fine for intended purpose. Can’t comment on long-term reliability since I just bought this, but I have found other Seagate Backup Plus externals reliable.

Getting this 4 TB portable USB disk storage have provided an ease of mind against computer system hard disk crashes. I am using this portable disk as a repository that maintains all my computers recovery images. The capacity is large enough to maintain many image versions.

This USB drive is compact, takes up very little space on my desk and does not require a separate power supply (and wires). Very good backup for all my file & photo’s. Seagate’s software included on the drive works great for making easy backups or for syncing your files. I am considering buying a second one for addition storage and security.

Great drive. Very fast, easy to setup and the USB ports make it easy to daisy chain. Plus it had an international power adapter, which was needed here in Aus.

PROS: You can’t beat the price for getting 8 Terabytes + an external enclosure with a USB3 hub. It doesn’t look half bad, either. HDD enclosed is not terribly fast, but what do you expect for a budget backup HDD? CONS: The software packaged with the drive is awful. Slow. Buggy. Unreliable. Do yourself a favor and invest in 3rd party back-up software. Unless you’re using the Windows/MacOS cross-platform drivers, go ahead and format this drive to your native filesystem and leave Seagate’s stuff out of your backup process. Your data and sanity will be better for it. In the end, you’re paying for a dirt cheap external backup drive. Don’t count the software as part of the value, though.

I jusdt got the request for a review on this disk drive from B&H. I’ve only used it for a few days now but it seems to work fine. I am using it for Time Machine on a Mac Powerbook.

sadly this failed second day. Seagate was amazing to replace. Sadly replacement was also bad. I’m awaiting the third drive now. 6 months of effort.
