this is the cheapest, slowest, biggest external drive you can get for the money. Use it to backup files to your archive. Do not use a 5400rpm bus-powered drive like this to edit video or anything really. Spoiler alert, it doesn’t matter if drives advertise USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 or whatever kind of port, most of them are slow 5400rpm drives from a handful of manufacturers on the inside, so why pay more? If you need an editing drive, try an SSD like Samsung.

As a photographer, I need lots of accessible data storage, so after reading the reviews I decided to buy it – and I’m very happy with it. First, it is the size of a paperback novel. It comes pre-formatted for mac (yes I bought the mac version) so it really is plug and play. I was impressed that it uses the Enterprise level internals so it should be well built. It also has two powered USB ports on the front, so if your laptop lacks ports, you can plug in external devices through the 8TB drive. The drive itself is almost silent. Some say it’s a bit slow for running applications, but if you think of it as storage for your data, then you can leave plenty of room on your computer for the applications. I had no discernable delay in reading large images or video straight from the external drive. Overall this is a well thought out and stylish storage solution.

This drive works very well but it has two shortcomings. First, it is the noisiest hard drive I’ve ever owned. If you are in a noisy work environment, this will likely not be a problem. However, if you have a quiet (e.g., home office) environment, it may be annoying. The second problem is not nearly as annoying. It is labeled as a Mac drive. However, it is not set up to work on a Mac computer. You need to download the correct drivers. It appears they need to clarify their advertising. Or, maybe I read the ad wrong?

A lot of storage in a small package. I am consolidating years of DSLR Photos which are on old CD’s so I can retrieve photos easier and have them on one storage unit and not try up my computers hard drive. I am very happy with the purchase.

We have been using Seagate external disks for 6 years, we never have had troubles. At this time, I purchased it again. It is cheaper than amazon, delivery is quicker too. Thanks to B&h

Plugged it in, and was able to immediately work with my Linux laptop. The speed seems very good, based on my experience with previous drives. With our photography activity, we need a lot of storage. (only problem, which is mine alone, is that I cannot seem to re-label the drive under Linux. While a minor nit, it is not an important issue, and may be solved by borrowing a Win***s system from a friend and re-labeling there)

I purchased 3 of these drives on 06/24/2020. All arrived in great condition and I put them to work storing my music files. They worked great and are very fast. And then 1 drive failed to show up on my device listing. I attempted to access it with disk management but cannot see it at all.

I’ve been using these Seagate drives for storage and backup of my wedding photography files for a few years now and have never had trouble with them. This drive, like all the others, has been great!

I Shucked this drive to use it in my Unifi Cloud Key Gen2 Plus. Drive is a normal SATA drive. Need a 5TB 2.5 but want it cheap? Look no further.

Got this as a backup for photo, video and important files to keep in the safe. Good quality, fast and does the job. Also priced right for the capacity

It is so compact, I just felt cheated, because, buying the drive for use a long time, I just haven’t seen longevity in small drives, having had top ranked Samsung drives wear out weeks after the Warranty runs out. It maintains download speeds after a few minutes, unlike my Samsung SSDs, sometimes starting at 152 Mbps dropping below 12 Mbps, and taking hours to transfer digital files that only takes minutes on these. I am sold on Seagate AGAIN, after they’re newer drives began failing in less than 5 years. I still have working 15+ or more Seagate drives.

It works well.

We bought two of these. Both worked perfectly with our Macs right out of the box, with Time Machine immediately recognizing them and quickly making full back ups. We could not be more pleased.

Compact and portable, with room to hold all your memories at a great price. Seagate products have always served me well.
