Designed for growing your digital library, the light blue 5TB Backup Plus USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from Seagate is formatted as exFAT and compatible with Windows and Mac right out of the box. It connects to systems running Windows 7 and higher or macOS 10.11 and higher using its micro-USB port and an included 18" micro-USB to USB Type-A cable that supports USB 3.0, which is also known as USB 3.1 Gen 1, as well as USB 2.0. It is bus powered so no additional power supplies are required and also features plug-and-play functionality, meaning that no additional drives are required for use.
Also included with Backup Plus is downloadable Toolkit Backup Software, which lets you backup on demand, schedule automatic backups as you desire, and mirror folders for file management. Take advantage of a 1-year subscription to Mylio Create to organize your photos and protect, edit, share, and sync them across multiple devices and use a 2-month subscription to Adobe’s Creative Cloud Photography Plan to edit and create using Lightroom CC and Photoshop CC.

This drive works very well but it has two shortcomings. First, it is the noisiest hard drive I’ve ever owned. If you are in a noisy work environment, this will likely not be a problem. However, if you have a quiet (e.g., home office) environment, it may be annoying. The second problem is not nearly as annoying. It is labeled as a Mac drive. However, it is not set up to work on a Mac computer. You need to download the correct drivers. It appears they need to clarify their advertising. Or, maybe I read the ad wrong?

Good overall value (as of May 2020) for storage and size, and I think a decent choice for secondary backups. I needed to reformat it for Time Machine, which was easy to do. Seemed a bit slower than expected for the initial backup, but once past that it should be fine for intended purpose. Can’t comment on long-term reliability since I just bought this, but I have found other Seagate Backup Plus externals reliable.

I got this drive to back up the computer in my recording studio, and thanks to the Toolkit software, it works automatically backing up all my music, video and more. The USB3 connection allows for a really impressive transfer rate. It’s a good price too, for a 4 TB drive. Recommended.

I plugged the 5TB Seagate into my new iMac as soon as I received. I use it for Time Machine backups and it works great, right out of the box. I have several 2TB Seagate portable HDs which I used with my 2011 MacBook Pro but they were plugged in periodically. This is the first time I will be able to make full use of the Time Machine app since it will be plugged in 24-7. Everything it does is not obvious to the casual observer which is fine because it means that the 5TB version is a device that does its job seamlessly. No trouble, no fuss–an unsung hero. I won’t be switching HDs or concerned about backing up my iMac and that’s exactly what I wanted. (The blue color is a bonus.)

I use for video editing, photoshop it super fast, not getting hot. It very small, I can carry on my pocket anywhere I go. It very convenient, you can do files transfer, storage or plug into your smartphone as an external storage, it pretty cool. Had some initial problems with the Seagate Dashboard software flashing warnings that the drive was full, when in reality only about 200GB was used (i.e., it was about 5% full). Contacted Seagate, which offered no solution. Decided that it might be the software, so deleted the software and everything seems to be all right. Otherwise, very quiet and fast.
