Designed for growing your digital library, the light blue 5TB Backup Plus USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from Seagate is formatted as exFAT and compatible with Windows and Mac right out of the box. It connects to systems running Windows 7 and higher or macOS 10.11 and higher using its micro-USB port and an included 18" micro-USB to USB Type-A cable that supports USB 3.0, which is also known as USB 3.1 Gen 1, as well as USB 2.0. It is bus powered so no additional power supplies are required and also features plug-and-play functionality, meaning that no additional drives are required for use.
Also included with Backup Plus is downloadable Toolkit Backup Software, which lets you backup on demand, schedule automatic backups as you desire, and mirror folders for file management. Take advantage of a 1-year subscription to Mylio Create to organize your photos and protect, edit, share, and sync them across multiple devices and use a 2-month subscription to Adobe’s Creative Cloud Photography Plan to edit and create using Lightroom CC and Photoshop CC.

It was immediately recognized and it is fast.

Great drive. Very fast, easy to setup and the USB ports make it easy to daisy chain. Plus it had an international power adapter, which was needed here in Aus.

After 4 months of backup my data of about 6 terabytes it failed are you kidding me lost all my data need to pay over 300 dollars to recover data wata piece of garbage dont waste your money on this junk unless you want to spend some money on data recovery buy any other brand but Seagate data recovery companies say Seagate is the worst to try and recover data 4 months really suks

follow the instructions that come with the portable HD and you should not have any trouble installing and running the backup drive with your Mac. The unit is very compact and doe not take up much space on your desk.

I was blown away by how fast this compact external drive was when backing up my Macbook Pro. As a designer / photographer, it’s extremely important to have redundant backups of my system and files (especially now that we’re working from home and don’t have easy access to the network drive). This small but mighty drive performed perfectly. I personally used my Mac’s TimeMachine for this particular backup, so I reformatted it first and cannot comment on all the included Seagate software and functionality, but I’m certain they would have worked great. Thanks again B&H for yet another quick delivery of a perfect product. Cheers! -Gage from NOLA

So far it’s working just fine. I use it for music DAW backup I expect nothing less because it’s a Seagate.

this is the cheapest, slowest, biggest external drive you can get for the money. Use it to backup files to your archive. Do not use a 5400rpm bus-powered drive like this to edit video or anything really. Spoiler alert, it doesn’t matter if drives advertise USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 or whatever kind of port, most of them are slow 5400rpm drives from a handful of manufacturers on the inside, so why pay more? If you need an editing drive, try an SSD like Samsung.

We bought two of these. Both worked perfectly with our Macs right out of the box, with Time Machine immediately recognizing them and quickly making full back ups. We could not be more pleased.

It seems to work OK but the lack of product instruction has stopped me from getting my hard drive backup complete. There was a comment on the unit software that said I should back up my data because this unit may delete files. Since it is a backup hard drive I found that to be an odd comment and I have not tried to use it since.

I bought this to use as an extra back up drive and it works well. Very simple plug in and use it.

Quality Drive I’ve got over 10 of these Bad Boys. Very reliable and they’re my go to for external hard drives.

I have a dozen or so of these, we use them to image our server and have a 12 week rotation. They’re pretty bullet proof. Also, they don’t have the built in backup software like the WDs have. We use Bitlocker, so having to first negotiate the built in encryption to get to the Bitlocker login is a pain.

It works well.

My experience with this drive has been that it never completes a full 1T back-up over several weeks, is painfully slow, and keeps disconnecting from my server. I have spent countless hours trying to get this to work as promised.

The unit I received mounted only once on my iMac (the automated setup routine), then it stopped. Disc Utility showed disc errors.
