Built with a compact form factor and ready for on-the-go usage, the 2TB Expansion Portable USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from Seagate is preformatted exFAT, meaning it is compatible with Windows and Mac right out of the box. This hard drive provides a storage capacity of up to 2TB and connects to your host system using its micro-USB 3.0 interface, which also provides bus power using an included USB 3.0 cable, meaning that no external power is required. Copy and saving data is easy – simply drag and drop. Also included is Seagate’s Rescue Data Recovery Services.
Please note that reformatting may be required for use with Apple’s Time Machine. Also, Rescue Data Recovery Services is not available in all countries.

Incredibly smaller than my previous 5TB drives, which is a definite plus, and very quiet. As a photographer, 99% of my data is in photos and I found the transfer to be equally fast as other USB 3 drives. Price was the best I found anywhere for 5 TBs so crossing fingers that it holds up well.

I needed to have this product within days, in time for a visit from my techie friend who would install my BRAND NEW MAC (yay!). Needed this HD to be here for the setup process. When the sales person heard my story he responded in such a friendly way and did everything he could to make sure the delivery would arrive in time. He didn’t HAVE to do it but he did! I’ve been using this drive for about 2 weeks, and so far I like it with some reservations. It’s relatively quiet and the r/w speeds are on par with the competition. The only thing I don’t like about this drive (so far) is the lack of rubber feet… it tends to slide around on metal surfaces (like when sitting on top of your case). Over the past 7 years, I’ve purchased about two dozen WD My Passport drives, and came to discover they have a tendency to fail at around the 2-3 year mark. After the last recent failure, I decided to give Seagate a try, so we’ll see how this drive lasts. As a side note, I think any moving platter technology should be considered portable temporary storage, and not a backup. I may eventually move to SSD drives as the capacities increase

If size (capacity) matters more than speed, this is a good deal. A comparably priced thumb drive would offer almost twice the speed, but only an eighth of the storage capacity.
