Built with a compact form factor and ready for on-the-go usage, the 5TB Expansion Portable USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from Seagate is preformatted exFAT, meaning it is compatible with Windows and Mac right out of the box. This hard drive provides a storage capacity of up to 5TB and connects to your host system using its micro-USB 3.0 interface, which also provides bus power using an included USB 3.0 cable, meaning that no external power is required. Copy and saving data is easy – simply drag and drop. Also included is Seagate’s Rescue Data Recovery Services.
Please note that reformatting may be required for use with Apple’s Time Machine. Also, Rescue Data Recovery Services is not available in all countries.

I am WD guy first, I bought Seagate because of a better price. But so far so good, no problem with Seagate.

Bought this as a back-up for my photos and videos. I have huge photo files which were slowing down my laptop excessively, so I use this to store them and transfer them to a larger capacity computer for photo/video processing. Working well so far.

I got it for Time Machine backup. Reformatting for the MAC was straight forward and it has been working as expected ever since.

Haven’t used it yet as my laptop says that it isn’t readable, nor can it repair it to be able to read it. Not sure if this is defected or if they’re selling products that don’t even work.

I have the 2TB and needed more capacity and the 5TB provides it. The 5TB seems to be two 2TB packaged together ( the height is twice that of the 2TB, otherwise same dimensions ). the 5TB seems to vibrate a little more than the 2TB — not an issue — just hope it does not affect the life of the unit)

I thought I would need this for extra image backup. Didn’t use it for the trip, but I am sure it will get plenty of action.

popped it out of the case and put into Ubiquiti Cloud Key Gen2 Plus to upgrade storage… works great. HOWEVER, don’t forget to backup the orig 1TB unit so you can restore the system to this new device or your Cloud Key must be reprogrammed in total. (buying this in the case and throwing away the case is much cheaper than buying the bare drive — go figure.

This is a great external hard drive. It’s already been set up for both Windows and Mac so all I had to do was plug it in and start transferring docs.

It’s too early. No way to tell reliability or longevity

It does exactly what it is supposed to do, stores data. I’ve been using Seagate for a number of years now and never had a problem. I only use them as backup storage so I can’t speak to how many re-writes you will get, but it does exactly what I need it to.

Easy to convert to a different device, MAC vs PC.

This external drive with the USB 3.0 is a lot faster than my previous external hard drives. I store a lot of pictures, so this works great for the bigger raw digital files.

Great value for 2 TB external drive. Comes formatted for Windows, but start up program makes it simple to follow the instructions to format it for Mac.

I’ve been on an adventure for over two years now and this is the only harddrive that is not giving me any problems. I’ve been on any road you can think of and in temperatures between -40*C and 48*C. Its really bombproof!

No problem on initial setup. then it would not be recognized by the computer. a day later it was recognized. transferred some files over(as a backup). Fine for a week then not recognized by the computer again. Giving up on seagate

This drive does exactly what I need it to do. It isn’t super fast, but I knew that going in. It’s a lot of storage for a low price which hit the nail on the head for what I needed.
