Built with a compact form factor and ready for on-the-go usage, the 5TB Expansion Portable USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from Seagate is preformatted exFAT, meaning it is compatible with Windows and Mac right out of the box. This hard drive provides a storage capacity of up to 5TB and connects to your host system using its micro-USB 3.0 interface, which also provides bus power using an included USB 3.0 cable, meaning that no external power is required. Copy and saving data is easy – simply drag and drop. Also included is Seagate’s Rescue Data Recovery Services.
Please note that reformatting may be required for use with Apple’s Time Machine. Also, Rescue Data Recovery Services is not available in all countries.

I use mine to back up the scan files from a system running Windows XP 32 bit with no problems and the Windows 10 machine reads it just fine too.

Out of the box, this is absolutely the slowest drive I’ve ever owned. 19 hours to transfer 1TB of photos and it kept freezing. Tried transferring same files to a 2 TB Seagate drive and it took less than 2 hours. Not certain if this specific one is a defective drive or if all the 5TB’s are this slow….

Just plug ‘n play. I use it with Lightroom for my tens of thousands of images. It seems a good option if you’re looking for a portable backup device.

So far so good. I reformatted it easily to be Mac and PC compatible as I use multiple devices depending on my mood. The design is a nice touch, but purely cosmetic. As long as it holds up, I believe it will suit me well.

I use drives like this to store video files of customers Scanned 8/16mm movies, video tapes, and photos, etc. They are price effective and accomplish the job. So far I have not experienced any problems.

I bought it to be used on my Seagate media player; at first it wouldn’t work but after some Googling, found out I need to reformat the HDD using MBR table and NTFS format. Apparently those disks now factory-shipped with GPT partition scheme. After re-format, disk worked fine without requiring external powered USB hub.

I’ve had many of these little Seagate portable drives. They are great because they are bus powered and do not need an additional power supply. Just plug in the USB cable and go. Plus this drive is extrememly fast with the USB 3 connector. Very fashionable, too. Much better performance than the previous iteration. Buy this one!

These hard drives feel cheap. I hope they last. I wouldn’t trust them with anything important. I guess you get what you pay for
