Built with a compact form factor and ready for on-the-go usage, the 5TB Expansion Portable USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from Seagate is preformatted exFAT, meaning it is compatible with Windows and Mac right out of the box. This hard drive provides a storage capacity of up to 5TB and connects to your host system using its micro-USB 3.0 interface, which also provides bus power using an included USB 3.0 cable, meaning that no external power is required. Copy and saving data is easy – simply drag and drop. Also included is Seagate’s Rescue Data Recovery Services.
Please note that reformatting may be required for use with Apple’s Time Machine. Also, Rescue Data Recovery Services is not available in all countries.

I like Seagate products normally and I thought 4tb for the price would be a great value however when the transfer speeds are reduced to 1-2 mb this drive is worthless too me. The only thing I would use this drive for is a back up and hope that I would never ever have to restore from this drive. This is just a paperweight.

I absolutely love this Seagate Expansion portable storage! I have saved all of my photos, videos and numerous movies to it and I am still not sure I could use all the space it provides! Who would believe that an external drive would be anything other than a plug-and-play? Well, this drive not only could not take files copied from my other drive, but it locked up my computer when I tried to restart. I had to remove the drive and restore the computer to salvage get it running again. Even after formatting the drive multiple times at the suggestion of Seagate’s tech support, it still would not take the transfer from my other drives. It would stop after several minutes and say that the drive needed to be formatted. Seagate’s tech support was prompt, and they tried to be helpful, but all I have after a week is a black brick that I am scared to reconnect to my computer. The Seagate SeaTools program diagnostic software that their tech support suggested wouldn’t even recognize the drive in order to diagnose it. My previous experience with Seagate back-up drives has been good, which is the reason I opted for this new 4TB version.

I just needed an external drive to back computers up for storage in a fireproof safe. The 2TB and small form factor is great. I was able to plug the drive into my Windows 10 laptop and start the backup within minutes after receiving the package. The entire drive is about the length and width of my hand and as thick as my pinky finger. It won’t take up much room in the safe!

I needed a lot of space for raw photo files on remote photography trips and 4 terrabytes should be plenty. I’ve had good luck with Seagate and use them for my RAID system backups. This portable drive comes in a small package but isn’t as shock proof as a Lacie so I purchased a Ruggard case to hold it while traveling. I’d prefer an SSD but a comparable drive would be too expensive for my needs. So far so good.
