Built with a compact form factor and ready for on-the-go usage, the 5TB Expansion Portable USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from Seagate is preformatted exFAT, meaning it is compatible with Windows and Mac right out of the box. This hard drive provides a storage capacity of up to 5TB and connects to your host system using its micro-USB 3.0 interface, which also provides bus power using an included USB 3.0 cable, meaning that no external power is required. Copy and saving data is easy – simply drag and drop. Also included is Seagate’s Rescue Data Recovery Services.
Please note that reformatting may be required for use with Apple’s Time Machine. Also, Rescue Data Recovery Services is not available in all countries.

I had my Seagate attached to my ThinkPad. The power was interrupted at the house while I was copying megabits of information. Thank goodness the Seagate external drive power supply came from the ThinkPad through a USB port, which seamless switches over to battery when the power goes out. Strong consideration when considering which external drive to buy.

Good storage space for the money, but copying is extremely slow. I am getting 4.98 MB/Sec tansfer rate.

Way more storage capacity than I need, but, for the price couldn’t say no. Works great.

I placed this drive on top of a stack of books about 9 inches high. I connected the cord it came with and went to plug it to my Surface Pro. Apparently, the Surface was a little too far for the cord and I ended up pulling the cord enough for the drive to come with it. What followed was a pretty hard thud, enough for me to be concerned about the drive. I cleared my desk and plugged in the drive only to find 300GB of files wiped out. Luckily, I’m using this drive as a backup, so nothing was actually lost. As I tried to eject it, a notification popped up preventing me from ejecting. This was new to me, as I am able to eject without any issues. I unplugged the drive anyway and upon re-plugging, a notification popped up saying the entire drive is corrupted and needs to be repaired, which I am in the process of doing. Great. For $100, I’d expect the quality of this hard drive to be a little better. If you are looking to buy a hard drive, please be take extra care into it when to open it out of the box.

I have three of these drives, and love them. No external power supply means I can move them back and forth between laptop and desktop computers. Small size makes them easy to carry. Great little drives.

I am a pack rat when it comes to photos and files on my laptop. I have such a hard time deleting anything. I was looking at a couple external hard drives and found that Seagate was the next best thing. It works well with my windows system and its ready right out of the box! I am not sure how it works with mac but it would probably just take a bit of reformatting to work. I like the design on the hard drive as it give it a little extra something when i have it plugged in. So far i have had no issues with my files being stored on my Seagate expansion external hard drive.

I bought this drive to save RAW files while tethered to my laptop. Works well with my setup. It’s fast enough (I shoot architecture) and big enough to serve my needs. The only possible complaint I could have is there is no light indicators that it’s attached and awake.

It’s plenty big enough for what I want. I wish it was a little faster. Price was right.

Large photo files take up a lot of memory! I ordered this drive to get more room. I ordered it specifically because it advertised that it works for Apple or Microsoft which suggested to me that it works for Linux (the operating system or OS that I prefer). Well it works just fine. I wish more companies would be brave enough to better accommodate Linux users like me and brag about it when they do.

I needed another portable hard drive and I saw this one. 1TB capacity for $55, outstanding value. The drive is about the size of a cell phone and lightweight. I have purchased several Seagate drives over the years and I have not had one failure. I am very pleased with my purchase!

Wasn’t DOA so that’s good. Benchmarks right around 130 MB/s, seems pretty solid.

Lots and lots of storage.

Seagate has been my go to for portable hard drives for many years and this one is serving as a back up of projects. What can I say, Seagate has never failed me while WD has several times.
