Add space, consolidate files to a single location, or free up space on your system’s internal drive with the 12TB Expansion Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from Seagate, which is preformatted exFAT, meaning it is compatible with Windows and Mac right out of the box. This hard drive provides a storage capacity of up to 12TB and connects to your host system using its micro-USB 3.0 interface. Copy and saving data is easy – simply drag and drop. Included is an 18″ USB 3.0 cable, an 18W power adapter, Seagate’s Rescue Data Recovery Services, and Toolkit backup software.
Please note that reformatting may be required for use with Apple’s Time Machine. Also, Rescue Data Recovery Services is not available in all countries.

my use: RAID-1 mirror to a pair of Seagate 4TB desktop drives (ST4000DM). Used to store and stream HD video. Withstands very heavy use. In a 48 hour acceptance test: offload the pair of 4TB drives to a Seagate ST8000AS002 drive ( which normally is mounted in a JBOD – AKA: a Microsoft storage pool). This drive, rumored to be inside the STEB8000100, has been in 7×24 use since Nov.2015 error free. The RAID-1 was built, re-synched, and the 8TB of data copied back to the RAID-1. Not a single error, not even a recoverable error, in the 48 hours of non-stop data transfer @ 75MB/sec (sustained). The STEB8000100 is intact for reasons of warranty. The cheap plastic case is a bit noisier than the Orico drive towers where the internal drive will be eventually mounted. Noise levels are important to me as the PC & 3 drive towers are in my office about 12′ from my ears.

It works great out of the box.

A good choice after dealing with 5 Hard drives of 1TB and 500GB. Perfect for making backups of my whole video and audio stuff. No need to worry anymore about losing my smaller external hard drives with personal information.

The size is compact enough for my desk and it’s an easy plug and play device. The thing I didn’t think about is, it needs electrical power to work. I didn’t pay attention to that and I was thinking it was like my smaller external drive and all I had to do was plug the ubs in. But overall, I’m happy with it.

Bought a couple of these on backorder as they were on sale from B&H and I wanted to lock in the price. The drives themselves have been working great for a couple weeks now. I shucked them so I could use the HDD’s inside my Unraid server. Inside the externals are Seagate Ironwolf Pro NAS drives. AFAIK, these are only below the Seagate Exos Enterprise HDD’s in Seagate’s model hierarchy. Only real complaint is that I backordered these in April 2021 and it took literally 6mo to receive them from B&H (just received October 2021) as they were waiting on them from Seagate. So these are great if in stock at a good price, but if on backorder I’d look elsewhere.

used one of these for work, and had to get one of my own. Plenty of storage space for what I need, and it works reliably.

happily it took my data, great backup drive for the price. Planning on storing it so ask again in a year or two. Hopefully I’ll never know othrwise.

Es la mejor opcin para almacenar proyectos finalizados. No lo recomiendo para editar y/o trabajar cotidianamente (Photoshop/Premiere/After), porque no tiene una gran velocidad de escritura/lectura, pero para backup, es la mejor opcin.

I was very surprised that I connected up the 8TB hard drive external for additional storage and it came right up with the computer recognizing the full 8TB. The last time I brought on additional storage it was nightmare trying to get the computer to see the full 3TB it only showed 1TB. As soon as it was up I started downloading big movie files I have and the new hard drive took it all. Took 15 hours to download with no problems I was impressed.

Ive had this expansion drive for about a month now, and very happy with it. It works as intended which is all you could want from a hard drive. It is decently quiet, I can hardly hear hear it over the soft hum of my desktop. Speeds around 100 mb/s. Nothing negative to say. So far so good.

I use a mac, formatted this device to my mac and it works great. It’s load and unloads faster than I thought. If I remember correctly, it took 35 minutes to upload 200 gb. Impressive.

Easy to use! Just plug into your laptop or desktop and go! Decent transfer speed. So far I’ve transferred close to 1 TB of photo files for safe keeping! It’s helped speed up my laptop too!!

I ordered (2) 16TB Seagate drives for a critical client deliverable. B&H was the only store that had these in stock and they were 25-50% cheaper! Shipping was fast and accurate as well. I was pleasantly surprised, and my client was able to meet their court mandated deadlines. Thank you so much & great work!

The product is very good. But the delivery went to a wrong address, and it was opened. The item brought to my address on Sunday, 01/26/2020 around noon. Hoping my next purchases from H&B will deliver to the correct address before took off…

It is slower and noisier than I expected, but that is not a problem for me because I use it for automated backup and do not usually interact with it.

It’s a great value for the money. But as some of the reviews mentioned, it’s noisy. Still, I thought: eh, how bad can it be? But, honestly, it’s CRAZY loud. And if you set it on any kind of surface that resonates / bounces sound, it’s worse. If you need cheap storage go for it, but for a drive you have to live with every day it may be worth it to look elsewhere, even if it means spending more.

I have used several of this model external hard drive. They have all lasted over 5 years. Transfer rates are at most 100 MB/s. usually about 50% less given it uses USB 3.0 and a slow hard drive (~5400 rpm). Great for back up.
