Add space, consolidate files to a single location, or free up space on your system’s internal drive with the 12TB Expansion Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from Seagate, which is preformatted exFAT, meaning it is compatible with Windows and Mac right out of the box. This hard drive provides a storage capacity of up to 12TB and connects to your host system using its micro-USB 3.0 interface. Copy and saving data is easy – simply drag and drop. Included is an 18″ USB 3.0 cable, an 18W power adapter, Seagate’s Rescue Data Recovery Services, and Toolkit backup software.
Please note that reformatting may be required for use with Apple’s Time Machine. Also, Rescue Data Recovery Services is not available in all countries.

Would be a great product if it worked on all my computers. It only works on one of my 3 computers at home, (It’s not a USB 3 issue, they all have USB 3)

I use these Seagate external drives for back-ups of my data (mostly images), and I like their simplicity of use and minimal aesthetic. I can’t comment on their technical aspects or compare them to similar models by other makers, but so far I have never had one fail on me. That said, I use them very sparingly. I plug them in only when I am adding or accessing data, and otherwise leave them unplugged and detached from my computer between uses.

I use it as an expansion drive for photo editing and it’s quiet, quick enough for my needs and affordable. I may get another one soon.

I reformatted quickly to a Mac compliant drive and filled it up and now sits on a shelf hopefully to never be called upon for the real test.

I needed a new storage drive for my video work and since I’ve been working with 4K video this seemed like a good option for my needs. The drive looks great and runs quiet although when it’s doing a lot of read/write cycles I can feel it running when I touch my desk. For me it’s not a big deal but for others, the vibration might be an issue. The drive comes preformatted for Windows (NTFS file system) but it can easily be reformatted for other O/S’s. I use Mac OS X so I had to reformat it but it’s not a big deal.

package is fine. needs a special power supply (it does come with one) so can’t work off a USB power cord. capacity only 7.27 GB rather than 8 GB.

I finally decided to consolidate my back up drives from 10 to 2—these Seagate 8 Tb drives worked right from the plug in, needed no formatting and so far so good—been using them ~ 1 week so far, so let’s see how long they last?

I like that the Seatgate 4TB has an ac power source…it makes me feel it is more reliable as a back up. And the price for a 4T is terrific.

No mention of speed in the specs, should have looked into it more, maxing out at 20-30 MB/s, otherwise its okay. But that’s REALLY slow for a USB 3.0 drive 🙁 They should have mentioned this in the specs. I’ll likely keep it but I wouldn’t recommend it.

it works well, loud but according to tests seagate is most reliable brand, and i can attest to that, nowadays where there is only essentially 2 companies on the market its either western digital and all companies it has bought vs seagate. I have had seagate and thoshbia portable hard drives failed on me but never seagate. also was not a problem with opening it via app on mac with its native ntsf format.
