Add space, consolidate files to a single location, or free up space on your system’s internal drive with the 6TB Expansion Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from Seagate, which is preformatted exFAT, meaning it is compatible with Windows and Mac right out of the box. This hard drive provides a storage capacity of up to 6TB and connects to your host system using its micro-USB 3.0 interface. Copy and saving data is easy – simply drag and drop. Included is an 18″ USB 3.0 cable, an 18W power adapter, Seagate’s Rescue Data Recovery Services, and Toolkit backup software.
Please note that reformatting may be required for use with Apple’s Time Machine. Also, Rescue Data Recovery Services is not available in all countries.

I bought this drive to back up the contents of my computers and then store in my fire safe. It’s got a lot of capacity for its size, so it’s convenient for my purposes.

Great drives so far, they’re Seagate IronWolf NAS drives that run at 7200 rpm. Wish I had bought more right away!

Not super fast but great for archiving. I have 4 of them now. I bought the first ones about 1 year ago and still working great.

I’ve only used this hard drive for a few weeks, so I can’t judge its longevity, but it’s working well. I’ve typically only purchased Western Digital drives for video work, but I bought this one as a large solution for Time Machine backup with my iMac because it was less expensive. Even though the drive is only listed as compatible with Windows out of the box, I can attest that it works fine with Macs as long as you re-format it with Disk Utility as soon as you get it.

Im not sure why, but Seagates external 8TB drives are much less expensive than their 8TB Barracuda internal drives. It makes a great, reliable external drive. In a pinch (see youtube) it also makes a great internal drive. I have 7 of them and not one failure yet, knock on wood.

I used this to store pictures off my hard drive. No frills and works well. Just plug in and use.

I used the Mac Disk Utility to reformat and it’s working like a charm. Great value for the money.

I added this external drive to my desktop PC for backing up my photography library. It’s fast, quiet and I’ve always had good luck with Seagate product reliability.

Everything you could expect and want in an external drive/storage device!

I purchased several of these drives for for image backups. The USB 3 speed is significantly faster than USB 2 and DVD writing, and the single drive is infinitely more convenient than having to use multiple DVDs.

It’s a great value for the money. But as some of the reviews mentioned, it’s noisy. Still, I thought: eh, how bad can it be? But, honestly, it’s CRAZY loud. And if you set it on any kind of surface that resonates / bounces sound, it’s worse. If you need cheap storage go for it, but for a drive you have to live with every day it may be worth it to look elsewhere, even if it means spending more.

Connected the drive and backed up 200Gb in less than 1 hour. The drive functioned without issue.

This is my 3rd Seagate unit (the other two are 5TB size). Unfortunately, one of the older units gave indications of dying and I bought the 8TB unit. I formatted the 8TB unit with the Mac Disk Utility and was up and running in less than 10 minutes. And the unit is working perfectly.

I’ve had so many bad experiences with WD that I refuse to buy another one. While Seagate maybe higher priced than the WD companies products but reliability and customer service is beyond reproach. I’ve had USB interfaces and bad cables cause drive failures and the power brownouts kill a drive in the past but Seagate is always great about repairing them under warranty. Of course I have had the bleeding edge drive reliability issue with every make of drive but Seagate stands behind their products and the others look for reasons to blame the user and deny warranty claims.

The cost is reasonable, I did not pay a lot of taxes in Mexico, I recommend it a lot!

Plugged the external enclosure in my NAS running OMV. Formatted it and is running great. Streams all my 4k and 1080p movies/shows just fine. Already had another 12tb external, but it was getting filled up.

No problems so far.

This is my 2nd Seagate expansion Drive, I also have an 8TB. The plug and play and easy to use Toolkit software make backups easy. The drives are also very quiet.

I am using it with a MacBook Pro. It works fine as long as it’s directly connected to the Macbook, otherwise it periodically disconnects itself. Never had that problem with a WD. I won’t be buying Seagate again.
