Add space, consolidate files to a single location, or free up space on your system’s internal drive with the 6TB Expansion Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from Seagate, which is preformatted exFAT, meaning it is compatible with Windows and Mac right out of the box. This hard drive provides a storage capacity of up to 6TB and connects to your host system using its micro-USB 3.0 interface. Copy and saving data is easy – simply drag and drop. Included is an 18″ USB 3.0 cable, an 18W power adapter, Seagate’s Rescue Data Recovery Services, and Toolkit backup software.
Please note that reformatting may be required for use with Apple’s Time Machine. Also, Rescue Data Recovery Services is not available in all countries.

I own several Seagate Drives… most work very well. Some don’t. This one has a continuous clicking sound… the drive is struggling with something, keeps repeating. Since I have stored sensitive information on it, I can’t return it (factor reset doesn’t 100% guarantee the data is gone). I’m stuck buying another drive.

Great track record. It just works!

Muy Bueno!

Significantly speedier than the external drives it replaced even though they were also USB 3.0. A bit on the loud side, you’ll want a little cushioning underneath the drive to minimize noise. Once you do this the noise isn’t bad at all.

The constant grinding noise this thing makes is awful. I was going to just deal with it, but I can’t. I’m sending it back.

I received the item well packaged and it’s working perfectly fine.

I bought these just for the bare drive. Funny marketing: the drive + USB interface + enclosure + power supply is cheaper than just the drive. In any case, the drives work well. I store lots of home video on them. They spin down when not in use, but they’re powered on 24/7. Backblaze’s latest failure rates show a pretty typical rate for these drives.

So buy a backup like this one, and put your mind at ease.

First Seagate was an internal add-on to my Mac G5. It lived as long as the computer (years) with no issues. Second was a 3TB external, now several years old, used with my previous iMac–the 3TB still works fine. This drive was bought for use with the new 2019 iMac–I wanted more space for large photo and video files. Reformatting for Mac is effortless and takes only a few minutes with Disk Utility. One thing I like about the Seagates is that they make little noise when working. Some drives sound like they are shredding your data–not these.

Makes a random knocking sound.

Lots of room for storing backups.

I purchased an identical 8 terabyte Seagate 3 years ago for the purpose of backup and also transporting my Adobe Lightroom Classic Library of images between two computers at different locations. It has been flawless– truly plug and play. I expect the same outstanding performance for my recent purchase when we install it on our Mac.

Im using this for a daily back up of my 6TB Video Drive, lots of room and really reliable.

I knew what I wanted, but didn’t know where to get it, but felt the pricing was fair @ B&H Photo. Ordering was easy and it came earlier than expected, in good packaging and in good shape. I will use them again.

Third Expansion drive in my backup rotation. They all work well.

I decided to give Seagate a try since Western Digital wasn’t getting the stellar reviews it always has. I have many drives across a few brands, but needed to add more storage and retire a few older drives. This drive worked great– was fast and reliable, until, for no reason, it just stopped powering on. I have tried other outlets, power cords, etc. It is just dead.

Using it as a back up for ex4.

I have a number of external drives that are in constant use. This drive replaces a WD My Book that died on me twice (it was used for Mac Time Capsule backups). The capacity of this drive is perfect and the price was great. However, this is the noisiest drive I’ve had in a long time. It sits on my desk and spins up each hour as Time Capsule performs a backup and it’s noticeably loud. At night when the place is quiet, I can hear it in the next room. That said, if this thing turns out to be as reliable as some of my other drives, I’d probably buy another couple because of the price.

Great price and size. Decent physical footprint and quite. WIsh it had a faster connection to my mac though

Works fine, setup was a breeze. Hoping for good longevity as it is a personal cloud device shared by multiple computers.
