Add space, consolidate files to a single location, or free up space on your system’s internal drive with the 6TB Expansion Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from Seagate, which is preformatted exFAT, meaning it is compatible with Windows and Mac right out of the box. This hard drive provides a storage capacity of up to 6TB and connects to your host system using its micro-USB 3.0 interface. Copy and saving data is easy – simply drag and drop. Included is an 18″ USB 3.0 cable, an 18W power adapter, Seagate’s Rescue Data Recovery Services, and Toolkit backup software.
Please note that reformatting may be required for use with Apple’s Time Machine. Also, Rescue Data Recovery Services is not available in all countries.

This is a tremendous product, while not super fast, and slight noise when under extreme load – it is 8 Terabytes and wonderful price and performance for what it is.

I have been buying records of this brand for years, hopefully they have never been damaged, they are safe, they look good on the desktop, the best thing is that they are very reliable, I will continue to buy more of this brand

I have a Netgear ReadyNAS network attached storage box and I used this 8TB drive to backup my NAS. This is not a fast drive and I wouldnt use it for anything but a backup and to store large files that you dont use often. It works perfectly for doing incremental backups After the initial copy (which can take awhile if you have a lot of data) Im only updating files that change. My NAS is setup to automatically copy and adds/changes/deletes and this drive is great fit for that task.

These seem good, they are just a little loud.

Performing as expected after three weeks. Slightly noisier than the Western Digital drives, but I’m hoping it will be more reliable. Some of my WD drives have had trouble, including a 10TB drive which failed after the first year.

I used these drives for backing up my own NZ railroad video and sound files, work files and final writes. Great value buying these larger units from B & H along with my DVD and BR disc needs. Super quick delivery for the over 14,000km distance also.

Though slightly louder than previous external drives I’ve used, this one seems to work well. I now have two of them, working in tandem, and they each have enough capacity to store all my photos, documents, etc. (The reason I bought two is because I’ve had external drives fail in the past. This time, if one fails, I should still have my important files on the other one.) I can’t say whether these will be durable — only time can answer that one.

The drive was bought to replace a 10TB Seagate drive and basically, it does what it is suppose to do. TWO things stick out though. 1) The drive is a bit noisy….you can hear the read/write movement of the heads. It is particularly loud because the computer it is hooked up to has SSD drives in it, which means it makes NO NOISE, so any is a lot. 2) I bought it as a 14TB Drive and upon opening and hooking it up…it comes in at 12.7TB of useful space. Not sure why the HUGE space grab for this BUT REAL GLAD I didn’t opt for the 12TB drive. I understand that whatever is on the drive, to make it work and all takes up SOME space, BUT I would have expected the useful space to be 13TB plus…not 12.

Early review for an hdd, but form factor is great, no fluff -rectangular just larger than the drive. Great write speed hit ~290mb usb 3.1 from a Linux device

Am using this with M1 MacBook Pro 13 and OWC Thunderbolt dock. Initially I thought it was owrking great but two things are making it look really shakey. (1) it keeps undocking and reconnecting itself, every few hours, and (2) trying to copy files from this drive back to another drive is failing due to unrecognized characters in file name. Sad. No other drive has these problems at all, not even a little bit. Very sad.

For context, I am using a Linux mini desktop as my primary home platform. I reformatted the drive with the EXT4 file system. It is one of 4 expansion drives in my configuration. 2 of the other expansion drives are backups (using rsync), while this and one other drive are my primaries. I am moving a net of around 20GB of data per day onto these drives (adding around 35GB and removing around 15GB per day). All of the drives are between 60% and 75% utilized. All 4 expansion drives are connected via USB3 interfaces. Now for my review. I have found this drive to be very reliable and reasonably fast. While writes are noticeably slower than reads, they are still much faster than USB2 drives. In spite of the hard disk not having lightning fast rotational speed (I think it is a 5400 rpm model), it gets the job done without significant delays. When I move a large quantity of data in a short period, the drive does get warm (certainly not hot). It seems to cool off relatively quickly during periods when I am not moving data. During times when I am not using it, the drive autoparks (reducing power consumption and wear/tear on the drive, itself). Bottom line, I would recommend this as a good option for anyone seeking to expand their storage footprint.

I am using this drive as a back up for my Synology system. I formatted it using Synology and it works perfectly out of the box.

Good speeds, tested the entire drive, both read and write were as good as any other 7200rpm top tier drive.

I run a whole slew of these as my archival drives. Fast enough to edit off if REALLY in a pinch, but at the price, it is tough to argue!

Purchase this drive as an archival backup and you will be very, very happy.

This 8T Expansion Drive arrived promptly from B&H. I formatted for Mac and set up as Time Machine. Since my 2010 Macbook pro is only USB 2, the Time Machine back up of over 3 TB of various drives is taking many many days and nights of continuous running. I hope this drive survives the first 2 Back ups. After that it is light duty. Better to look at reviews after a year of use not 2 weeks.
