Add space, consolidate files to a single location, or free up space on your system’s internal drive with the 6TB Expansion Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from Seagate, which is preformatted exFAT, meaning it is compatible with Windows and Mac right out of the box. This hard drive provides a storage capacity of up to 6TB and connects to your host system using its micro-USB 3.0 interface. Copy and saving data is easy – simply drag and drop. Included is an 18″ USB 3.0 cable, an 18W power adapter, Seagate’s Rescue Data Recovery Services, and Toolkit backup software.
Please note that reformatting may be required for use with Apple’s Time Machine. Also, Rescue Data Recovery Services is not available in all countries.

I’m using this Seagate 10TB External Hard Drive as a Plex server and boy can it hold a lot of media! Setup is easy and truly plug and play. This is the sweet spot for cost/terabyte (unless of course you go with a NAS RAID box) and for reliability with a failure rate lower then 4TB to 6TB external drives. Just get it at the sale price and you’re good to go!

the 8TB drive is actually 7.27TB and when you google 7.27 you can readabkut how this is an accepted thing that some companies do when calculating size.

Device is very very fragile so I cannot recommend it. It’s only been in use a couple of weeks and after being simply knocked over from the upright position it started peeping and then failed to spin up. So if you’re using one of these be sure it’s in a very stable location.

Works great so far. It does however: (1) report a different set of SMART indicators that my OEM Exos X14 drives, (2) comes with just 1-year warranty in North America as opposed to 5-year OEM Exos coverage and you would need to put it back together as the drive’s own S/N is not valid in the Seagate warranty tool, so you need the enclosure S/N (remember to write down each matching pair!!), (3) requires picks and patience to crack open. Exactly as describe. I use this drive to backup up my photos and to keep a copy of my operating system. So far it’s been great and I see no problem as yet. It also runs quiet in the background. I am more than pleased with this purchase and will probably order another one in the near future!

Runs fast enough to serve as a manual backup drive, and 18TB should be good enough for several years. It is not silent but the fan is reasonably quiet. I reformatted it for MacOS, by the way. IN GENERAL I’ve noticed that virtually all reviews for external hard drives have a few people complaining of slow R/W, and I think that is because drives are usually delivered in EXFAT format to accommodate both Mac and PC. EXFAT always runs slow in my experience.

Don’t try to back up anything quickly with this thing. It is slow as molasses. But it works and has a ton of storage.

I use this to simply store images in all formats, and some documents. It is stationary and not subject to periodic movement. It does the job as expected. I have other Expansion drives that all do the job and at a fraction of the cost of other units. Speed is not important for this function.

This is a great product for those who need extra storage and on the go. The read and write data transfer speed isn’t all that fast or great but it gets the job done for massive storage.
