Making clothes and face masks I didn’t t think I would like The top loading bobbin but now have changed my mind because I can see when bobbin is getting low on thread. The only thing I don’t t like is the cord is too short-about another foot in length would be better.

The Singer Heavy Duty machine lives up to it’s name! I’ve made several hundred masks for First Responders during this COVID crisis using an old sewing machine. How great to have this one that sews over the pleats in the mask without missing a stitch. No more fighting to get the fabric to go thru. Love it. Don’t love the small light focused directly on the needle. Don’t like the placement or the feel of the reverse switch, but I will get used to that.

So far this is a good basic machine, which is what I wanted. The only thing I am not crazy about is the reverse switch. You have to hold it down with one finger to reverse, so that leaves only one hand to maneuver the fabric.

I’ve been using my 30+year old Singer for occasional, light sewing projects over the last few years, but making masks with pleats was really hard on it.
