This is my first belt sander. It takes off material like a champ & gives my lats & triceps a nice workout too. I chose this one because the tool review sites said it’s a good model for beginners as it’s got pressure control indicators which warn when you’re using too much pressure. If you’re not using enough pressure the trigger lock won’t engage. Which helps teach me how to apply the right pressure. The pressure sensor feature also helps prevent gouging. The only thing I don’t like about it is the dust collection is too small. It does have the ability to connect to a shop vac or the like, so, that’s a huge plus. I think when I do smaller projects than refinishing my porch the attached container will be plenty. I’ve used it for about 12 hours of actual sanding time and it’s definitely made my life better.

There is a plastic edge and metal edge surrounding the sandpaper belt which can notch or scratch the surfaces – I would have preferred a sanding belt that was clear of frame or clear of the plastic body of the sander which has caused some blemishes which had to be planed out because it was too deep to sand. it sands fine. the dust collector is a great feature. easy to clean it and helps a lot.

This is a great 18″ belt sander for the DIYer and the pressure monitor is a great feature to help prevent scouring. The sander comes fully assembled and is a whiz to use. The trigger activates it and another button can lock the power on to ease the wear on your hand. It is light and easy to use. You let the sander do the work. I found the pressure indicator to be spot on, it turns red when you are applying too much pressure. Most dust stays on the wood and some entered the canister, mostly fine remnants.This sander is great for small vertical and horizontal projects. If you need a belt sander for large projects such as a floor, I would get a larger and more ‘professional’ one. The sander comes with one 80-grit sand paper roll already attached.

To be fair, I probably couldn’t give the most accurate review of this, but I will say something about it anyway, since I did use it for a very important job. My door in the house was tight when it closed on the side and top edge of the frame. I sanded from the deadbolt all the way to the top of the door, and over the top edge to the end. I made several passes and checks while closing and opening the door, and after about 7 passes….BA DA BING!!! DONE! I was so happy, my tenant was so happy the door closed beautifully. No gouges, no dust, nothing. Happy landlord, happy tenant. Price was reasonable too. I am a little alarmed about people talking about dust clogging in the filter though. But I didn’t work it that much to honestly say anything about that. As a landlord, honestly, the only thing I really see myself using this for….is for sanding door edges so they close properly.
