I have been a professional carpenter for 24 years, in that time I have spent many hours using a reciprocating saw. The reciprocating saw is a great tool – there are many situations where no other tool can handle the task as well as a reciprocating saw; the big downfall of these saws is they create a lot of vibration. No longer! I was very pleasantly surprised how much vibration was dampened by the Buzzkill technology on the SPT44A. The reduced vibration helped with user fatigue and actually helped make cleaner cuts because the saw was easier to control. My main concern with the vibration dampening technology in the SPT44A was that it would effect the power of the saw. Again, I was pleasantly surprised; if it did effect the power of the saw I am glad because it ranks up there with the reciprocating saws of Skilsaw’s to remain unnamed competitor…A reciprocating saw with power to spare, greatly reduced vibration, and it bears the name of an iconic power tool company? Count me in! Some tools that I test out live quietly in my shop to be broken out when and if needed – the SPT44A is not one of those tools, it has earned a permanent spot in my work van…right beside my trusty 77 worm drive.

Works great.

The saw was very heavy. The weight listed does not include cord (as stated in small print on the box). Ended up having to return and exchange for a lighter saw.

Great tool! Exceeded expectations.

For the price, not gonna complain. Threw on one cheap blade on this, and did a chop up job on a fairly thick, long and heavy branch that got grounded, and had room for an old cabinet. Day went by quick. Thing has a lil weight to it, but who cares.. gotta give it this buzzkill. Hardly any vibration to this thing. Never gave me a workout.

Great tool they took out all shake and rattle out of the tool GREAT job and performs excellent.I worked all day for five days and dropped it a couple of times and it didn’t miss a beat.the price is right so I bought two because I abuse tools, so il be running this one into the ground. lets see how long it last for reals.

Full disclosure, I’ve never had a reciprocating saw before. But I’m glad I started with this one. It has plenty of power, is small enough and light enough to manage easily and safely. And it made short work of the things I needed to demolish that I bought it for.

works very well. good balance and performance. the 4 mounting screws for the “kickback shoe” come loose from time to time

Wanted to tear pallets apart for projects and this baby does the job. How I lived without one this long is a mystery.

What I could tell from the blurred out photo that accompanied the invitation to test Skilsaw’s new 13-Amp reciprocating saw was this: it had a cord. It’s been so long since I touched a corded reciprocating saw that I found it hard to fathom why a company would spend good R&D money developing a corded saw in this age of battery-op tools, but, hey, they’re known for corded tools. So there’s that. When the saw showed up, I didn’t open it right away. Instead I brought it to work and opened it there, in front of my carpenter coworkers, so we could all take it in at the same time. The first comment was about the way it looked. Someone wondered if Skilsaw might be headed for a lawsuit, since it looks an awful lot like a Milwaukee Sawzall. As Skilsaw seemed to have taken their color cues from Milwaukee, it’s fair criticism, but there’s a large “SKILSAW” logo printed on each side of the tool that helps to clear up brand confusion.Someone else commented on the way it sounds: “Yup,” they said. “That sounds like a reciprocating saw.” And it does. But it also sounds a bit more tuned than the Milwaukee tools I’m used to, a little less brutish. And that, I think, starts to get to the point of why this saw exists. Skilsaw says its Buzzkill technology reduces vibration 35 percent better than its leading competitors. Not knowing just what they’re comparing to, I compared it to what I had at hand – a corded Milwaukee Sawzall (which I’ve used exactly zero times since I got a Milwaukee Fuel Sawzall a year ago).Head-to-head, switching the same blade back and forth after each test, the Skilsaw seemed to cut just a little slower than the Milwaukee. But it did vibrate less – I’m not sure about 35 percent less, but it is noticeable. I took video of myself making similar cuts with the Skilsaw and a Milwaukee, and while the vibration felt a bit less, the video showed my arms looked like blurs as they vibrated with the Sawzall; with the Skilsaw, there was far less shaking – nearly none, according to the video (it still felt like there was some vibration, though). The Skilsaw’s vibration reduction seems to work best if you set the shoe on the work and pull it straight through the cut. The Skilsaw isn’t a speedster, but it’s not slow. It and the Milwaukee each took about 20 seconds to make an 18-inch rip through some PT deck stair stringers. And the Skilsaw had no problem handling the junk sandwich of 2x PT loaded with nails, screws and structural connectors that I made up to put it through its paces. As for the build, it’s what I’d expect of a Skilsaw tool, which is to say that it’s sturdy as a mule. Their magnesium worm drive is still one of my favorite tools, and if I were inclined toward a corded recip saw, this would be high on my list.

Great saw! Purchased to demo a deck and has more than enough power to cut through any nail embedded boards you may run into. Much less vibration than my old Chicago Electric saw I had been using. Recommend using a good blade like Diablo with this saw to maximize effectiveness.

After receiving my 13 Amp Reciprocating Saw I began to compare it with my current 15 Amp Sawzall. First the weight and feel were very comparable, my 15 amp was a hair heavier. Speed of cut was very similar through all materials and are both rated at 2800 RPM. One of the features I wish that the Skilsaw would incorporate is the adjustable shoe for different lengths of cut. In my experience I normally am cutting mostly wood products. During those cuts I did not feel a whole lot of difference in vibration between my two different saws(Both claim to have vibration reduction technology). As far as durability, the casing and handle seem to be built very well and sturdy on the new 13 Amp Skilsaw. When operating through thin metal and wood I never felt a lack of power. I originally used for cutting through 6×6 timbers and even tree trimming and it felt very comfortable to use. In my pictures below I was cutting 2×4 with easy in my shop. Something else I would like to note is the ascetics of the machine. It looks industrial and I feel that its performance matches its looks well. Overall I highly recommend this tool for the quality and for the price!

Carrying the saw one handed seems heavy, but when holding it with two for use, the weight is so balanced that there is less fatigue. My old saw was so one sided heavy I would get tired demoing a wall. Probably my favorite feature is the spring swivel blade load/unload. I don’t know how many times I would load a blade in my Ryobi and for it to come out stuck in the wood and hot. I really put this one to the test, cut through pallets (I stacked 3 w a long blade) it did not bog down. 1/4 inch steel in a vice no problem, it was so smooth through steel no bounce. I cut the steel again with it loosely screwed to a board, another smooth cut. 4×4 nailed to 2×4 smooth cut. For the fun of it I also cut through a log, no kick back, or vibration. This is a great tool.

I bought this to cut up an old deck. It is powerful and, with a quality 9 inch wood blade, makes quick work of sawing through 2x6s.

Love this saw! No options, features to speak of and even the shoe is not adjustable but it does exactly what you need it to do. It has more than enough power to handle any job. It’s a substantial tool with a great quality rubber boot, variable speed trigger. It has a thoroughly professional appearance and feel. The Buzzkill vibration dampening system works very well. Great value, very happy with this purchase!
