The Echo Express SE I Desktop Thunderbolt 2 Expansion System for PCIe Cards from Sonnet supports most Thunderbolt-compatible cards, including PCIe 1.1, PCIe 2.0, and PCIe 3.0 cards up to 7.75″ long. It is suitable for connecting one professional video capture, audio interface, SAS or SATA HBA, 16Gb or 8Gb Fibre Channel, 10Gb Ethernet, or RAID controller PCIe card to any Mac or Windows PC with a Thunderbolt 2 or Thunderbolt port. The PCIe expansion slot is necessary to install specialty audio, video, networking, and storage controller interface cards. The SE I features Thunderbolt 2 technology, which provides up to 20 Gb/s of bandwidth for demanding, high-performance PCIe cards, and incorporates support for the DisplayPort 1.2 protocol, which enables video streaming to a 4K video monitor. The Echo Express SE I may also be upgraded to Thunderbolt 3 by switching the PCIe card in the chassis.

Works as expected with a Magewell Quad Capture card and a MacBook Pro. A little fan noise, but not bad.

Use it as a Thunderbolt connectivity with an iMac to have an external SSD drive installed with a Sonnet Echo Express SE I.

super easy setup. open it up, drop in the PCIe card, plug in power cable, tb2 cable and ready to go. couldn’t be happier!

I bought this and inserted a capture card into it. It worked immediately and the fan helps keep it cooler. Great protection for a capture card.

I have multiple Mac Pro trash cans and iMacs which all have one thing in common: no PCI card expansion capability. After trying some solutions designed to do some of what a proper video or multi-channel sound card can do (ie. Matrox TripleHead2Go) I finally discovered these little gems, and I sleep much better at night now!

Extremely frustrated to discover that this unit is mounted upside down and in fact does not allow for daughter cards from the Decklink. Even their own power and thunderbolt pcie is upside down. To only add to my frustration, the Thunderbolt cable lock is included but the chassis does not have receiving threads to use it. Not at all what is advertised.

Quality construction with ample power supply provided for Thunderbolt PCIe expansion card. Has two thunderbolt ports. Works well with both Apple Thunderbolt and PC enabled thunderbolt computers. Did not encounter any compatibility issues with Firmtek PCIe cards.

So had it for 26 days work on the thing none stop and one day it just would drop the connection and had to unplug the thunderbolt to kick start it again, then it finally died. Had to return it to BH and ended up getting the promise tech which is a little bit more but is a bit smaller
