I’ve used these strippers for a variety of projects. They are super sharp and take wire casings off effortlessly. Feel is ergonomic and the design is slim and compact. The only other thing I would like to see these strippers have is an option to strip smaller gauge wire. I believe the smallest is 12-14 gauge.

Wire strippers have a very solid feel to them and cut nicely. The orange handle makes it easy to see on a cluttered workbench. I am not an electrician so not sure how they would hold up in a day after day use but I believe they will be a good addition to my shop.

I was lucky enough to win these in a giveaway. Great strippers with sharp cutters and a really durable feel.

I picked up these wire strippers for a 10 gauge wire project I needed to complete. I have another wire stripper, but it is used mostly for smaller gauge wire projects.I like this stripper for the 10 gauge that I needed to work with. It does a nice job stripping the cover off the wire and doesn’t leave any marks on the copper itself. It has a nice feel and fits well in my hand. I like the slight curve of the handle. The only issue I see with this wire stripper, is the straight cutter. Since the stripper goes from 12 gauge down to 6, you need to cut good size wire. The cutter should be wider, so you can cut the full piece of wire, instead of having to strip the cover off with a knife and then cut one wire at a time.Overall, I like the feel of the wire cutter and it did a nice job on stripping the cover off of the 10 gauge I was using.I would have rated this produce overall Excellent, but the small straight cutter is what moved my overall rating down.

These wire strippers are better than I anticipated. When getting items on line, sometimes it’s difficult to estimate the size. These wire strippers fit my hand well and are of good weight. As soon as I pick them up they feel sturdy. Markings on the cutter make it easy to pick the correct area for the wire size. The blades are sharp and make a clean cut through the wire insulation. The cutters have a lock that keep them closed when not in use and a heavy spring for opening and closing. I am very happy with these wire strippers.

Won these a couple months ago. Great for stripping heavier gauge wire, super sharp cutters and comfy handle could use them all day.

I have considered Southwire tools to be in the mid-level, and did not use this brand when I worked utilities. Then, my tools were provided by the company. When you have to purchase your own tools, naturally, cost is a factor in the purchase equation. The Southwire Ergo Wire Stripper (model S612STR) measures 7.38” length by 2.5” width, with a thickness of .63”. We can assume the “Ergo” in the product name means ergonomic. It should not feel too small if you have big hands. The tool does fit very nicely in my hand, and the offset could be useful in tight places. The “double dipped grips” were appreciated when I cut 6-32 and 8-32 screws (the most common size when working with electrical boxes). The tool is said to be constructed of stainless steel, but appears not to be austenitic SS, as this tool is magnetic. This tool strips wire sizes of 4-10 AWG solid, and 6-12 AWG stranded. The jaws on my tool did not open fully initially with the spring force, but swiveling the hex-head bolt a bit loosened it up slightly, without causing any play. The finish was even and smooth. The only part of the tool that was not appealing were the tips, which did not seem to be cleaned up after manufacturing. To summarize, I feel the Southwire Ergo Wire Stripper is a good value, and backed by the 5 year warranty, I am confident the tool will serve my needs well.

The most professional set of wire strippers I have ever owned. Soild tool and so slop to the function like with cheaper tools

I just received it and so far I love the handles, i haven’t had them slip off like the previous review had. The double dipped handles are extremely comfortable and i wished they were on all my other tools. So far this wire stripper is easy to use and definitely if i were to lose mine, i’d buy another one in a heartbeat.

I was impressed with the quality of this wire stripper! The blades are sharp and cut cleanly on every type of wire I tried it on. It stripped the insulation from 12-gauge “zip” cord, worked well on 10-gauge wire, and cut cleanly through NM 12-2 with ground (commonly called Romex). The stripper worked easily and cleanly on all the wire sizes I tried it on.

I received these stranded wire strippers about 3 weeks ago and since receiving them I have had several chances to use them. They are very comfortable in your hand and easy to strip with. I am left handed and often it is troublesome to unlock and lock wire strippers with your left hand, these were very easy to do and gave you a very positive feeling when locked so you knew they would not open up on your pouch. The spring will open the pliers up quickly but it is not too overpowering where you have to work to close them. The wire cutter and the color of the jaws and labels are my favorite part of these strippers. The wire cutter is quick and efficient and left a burr free cut. The strippers are silver with black letters for the wire size and screw size, I found this much easier to read than a dark colored stripper with gold letters and numbers. I found these every east to use and look forward to purchasing another set that would be designed for solid wire.

I just spent the last week working on my latest Harry-Homeowner project installing a home security system. I used my new Southwire 6 AWG – 12 AWG Ergo Wire Stripper for the heavier wiring for the power supply junction box and the grounding wire to the new alarm panel box. I also used my new Southwire 10 AWG – 20 AWG Ergo Wire Stripper for the smaller alarm panel and keypad control wiring. These wire strippers made the job much faster and easier.

Nice stainless steel. Very poor grips on handle. Constantly slips off of tool. Very annoying. Holes in strippers for various wire diameters seem to be slightly undersized. Strippers constantly dig into copper when stripping. This has gotten better over the last year of use but still is an issue. The main reason i keep the strippers in my tool belt is for the ability to strip #8 and #6 wire. Also very handy for use in wet conditions. I wish the holes were larger and the grips stayed in place. Possibly a not so plastic feeling grip would be nicer.

Southwire’s ERGO wire strippers has a nice Ergo double dipped grips and the stripper is made of heavy duty stainless steel. The tip has a great tip for looping wire and a sharp cutting edged shear. The wire strippers has a easy access for shearing for 6-32’s and 8-32’s fasteners. This wire stripped has a built in locking lever which locks or opens with ease. Fits nicely in your hand for easy stripping of stranded wire.

Since getting these, i have only had 2 chances to use them, and both times, they have been fantastic. The second time i used them, it was sprinkling out, and the grips, while wet, never slipped off, nor became too slippery to use. Would definitely recommend

Stainless steel construction is a great feature to keep them rust free. covers a good range of larger gauge wiring. I use them primarily for automotive accessory wiring, for which they work great. Most aftermarket automotive products require larger gauge wiring. My only complaint, if you could call it that, is not going up to 4 AWG stranded. But I understand this company is primarily catering to commercial/residential sparkys, so can’t really fault them for not including a pretty standard large gauge automotive wiring gauge on the cutters.Produce clean cuts, with a nice solid, smooth action, and fit well in my hands. The lock keeps them closed until you need them, which is good, because they are SHARP!Also of note, these are priced the same as some of the cheap, garbage strippers out there that are not nearly as good of quality, so there’s really no reason everyone shouldn’t own a set. Why buy some junk at walmart or online when you can have a quality professional tool that will last forever for the same price? No brainer!

The Southwire Ergo Wire Stripper 6-12 AWG is one of the nicest wire strippers that I have used. The ergonomic grip feels natural in my hand and, I would assume, limit the fatigue I would be likely to feel if I were doing hours and hours of wiring work. The grip material is firm, but pliable enough to limit any vibration, as well as to conform, somewhat, to my hand. The markings for each notch are clear and well defined. The cutting surface is very sharp, and at least on the wire I used these for, did not dig into the copper. This unit is intended for use on standard AWG wiring of 6-12 gauge, so the heavier stuff used when wiring a shop, AC or other high voltage, high current applications. This would not work well for thinner stuff (use the right tool for that). The range of motion with this is nice, allowing for maundering into tight or awkward spaces. And the locking mechanism is easily within reach of your thumb, allowing you to place these back into a pocket of tool belt without the risk of snagging other tools, or cutting yourselfPros: Great ergonomics, clear markings, nicely finished product.

I never actually knew there was a difference between solid and stranded wire strippers. I used to use combo strippers for everything I did. Well, I noticed that a lot of times the strippers would cut one or two of the strands off and never made clean cuts or strips. After using these I will never go back! These are the best! Super sharp and make clean cuts in both the wire and insulation. I’ve been extremely satisfied with just about every Southwire tool I’ve used and these are no different!! I’ve used them more times than I can count and they’re just as sharp as the day I got them! I post pictures and videos of all my tools on my Instagram @ctsparkyyy if you’d like to check some out
