As a retired electrical engineer, with experience in electrical contracting, and hobbies including auto restoration and electronics, I was excited to get my hands on these Southwire wire strippers. My toolboxes already contain 5-6 other strippers from other manufacturers. They are all used regularly, and each has a deficiency in at least one area. The Southwire stripper had some tough competition. On first look you will notice the lockable, spring loaded, cushioned, curved handles that fit the hand, left or right, just right. The lock can be opened with one hand, and the spring opening makes the tool easier to use. You will really appreciate the cushioning when cutting 6-32 or 8-32 screws in the provided ports. This tool cuts them cleanly. Also you will immediately notice the laser etched writing, on both sides of the tool, to identify wire sizes. It is nice not to have to flip the tool to read the other side! Great attention to detail! Pliers are on the nose of the tool. Surprisingly, they meet cleanly and without a gap making their use with small wire sizes easy. But what about stripping wires? The stripper holes are perfectly sized and cleanly stripped stranded wires across the tool range of #20 to #12 without nicking or removing individual strands. It was even used on 680 strand #12 and worked flawlessly. The smallest solid wire size is #18 awg. If you encounter #20 awg solid thermostat or bell wire regularly, you will need a different stripper. But since most thermostat wire is #18 today, these are just right. The largest solid size is #10 awg, beyond which you will get out the pocket knife. The tool was tested on every solid size and was spot on with no twisting of the tool needed to cut cleanly around the wire. The wire cutter was sharp and precise. This is a stainless steel tool and it should hold up well. It fits in your pocket well and is easy to use. It is not a crimper. That would require a larger, different tool. But as a wire stripper, it is great.

This feels good in your hand, the padded handles, and curved design makes it easy and a pleasure to use. It doesn’t hurt my hand after a long day. The joint and the spring make it so there is no break in time, it is ready to go right out of the package.

I have had this for a couple of weeks now and really starting to love it. It has a really strong spring which at first I dint know if I was going to like but it is nice. It has bolt cutters on which allway comes in handy.

Got the strippers to try. Work great. The 8-32 bolt cutter is not quite up to par.

Strippers works well on solid and strained wire. The spring handle is a little strong for some of the crew with smaller hands. Nice feature having the screw cutter on the strippers.

I’ve had these for about a week and so far they have done me well. They have very nice grips to them and a very sturdy feel. I have had no problems with them and hopefully I never will. The only thing I have a slight negative towards is that they feel a bit tight to squeeze but that can be easily fixed so it isn’t a big deal for me.

Good feel and function. Its nice having good spring back when using tools like wire strippers. Its great that they are stainless as well, tools get exposed to the elements every now and again!

This wire stripper has very sharp and precise cutting jaws. I cuts the wire cleanly using a ‘shearing’ action then cuts the insulation without nicking the conductor, then (my favorite tool feature) using the end jaws pulls the insulation free from the conductor. It also has two threaded small machine screw cutter/trimmer. Wire and screw sizes appear to be laser etched and should remain permanently. Handel is ‘ergonomically’ shaped and comfortable.

Very comfortable to use for long periods. Stainless steel stays sharp, strips wire great!

I like the larger size, it fits the hand much better. The only drawback I found is it is not designed to strip #10 stranded. As an industrial electrician this is a very common size wire.

I have owned many strippers in the past 30 yrs of servicing and I can tell just by the feel that these are quality strippers. Nice fit in the hands and solid.

So far they are impressive. They have good thick grips that don’t slide around. Very strong construction. Cuts wire well and strips well also.

I expected to use these just for evaluation and feedback, but now they are my favorite. The curved handles are very comfortable, the lock is easy to use and doesn’t move unexpectedly, and the spring force is just right. I have used them on solid and stranded wire from 14 to 10 AWG and they work beautifully every time. If I lost them I would replace these rather than reverting back to one of my others.

These strippers are one of the typical basic designs that you tend to see on the market with a few improvements. This pair of strippers is very well adjusted out of the package. While the action of the pliers is very smooth and free, there is no “slop” or wiggle between the to parts of metal. The handle pads also seem to be glued on well. This is my 2nd pair of this pair of strippers. I paid for the first pair myself and am very happy with them. My first pair is about a year old and is still holding up well.
