The Southwire Wire Stripper and Cutter for 10-12 AWG is a must-have in your utility pouch just for the useful and professional jobs it does on cutting into Romex cables. The stainless tool comes with a 5 year warranty and equipped with comfortable double insulated handles that they claim to be ergonomically designed. I will admit they felt comfortable in my hand as I cut wires due to the length of its handles, but personally I would like to see a slightly more curve on one handle to fit into the palm of my hand. I found that the tool did well to cut the sheath off of 12/2 and 10/2 Romex cables, but furthermore strip 10 and 12 gauge wire. The tool also includes a serrated tip for pulling and twisting, and guides for looping wire, cutting blades, crimping tool, and shear 6-32 and 8-32 screws (not attempted). Sometimes it’s the small features that excite me, and in this case, it’s the spring load and the clamping lever that locks the handles close when not in use so it doesn’t get caught something in my pouch. For only $25, it will be a value add to your toolset. I think you will find this tool very useful for its intended purpose, and will last a long time if you take care of it.

So i was eager to test this new stripper out especially since i use alot of romex wire. I was skeptical by the design but once i got it and tried it out i was shocked how well it actually worked. These things will cut right through the outer sheth without even nicking the inner jacket of the wire. They will cut right through 10/2 like butter. These are a must if you use romex wire even on a weekly bases. I will never use a razor blade again now that i have these.

This Southwire wire stripper and cutter for 10-12 AWG with ergonomic handles is well made and has a smooth action. It has stainless steel construction and will strip Romex as well as conductors. It has a shearing cutter and loops wire. It can also shear 6-32 and 8-32 screws. The cutter has a nice handle that feels good in the hand and it comes with a five year warranty.

What a great addition to my tool bag. This tool saves me several steps with previous tools. I used to keep a utility knife in my bag along with strippers and needle nose. This tool is one tool with all three features. Cuts outer sheath, Strips inner wires and bends wire to termination position. It is also a comfortable high quality tool! Thanks Southwire!

I was excited when given the opportunity to try out this tool. Having used Romex 12/2 before I have struggled with a quick and easy way to strip the outer jacket and prep the inside wires. While pros can get by with a utility knife, for me this is the perfect tool. Measuring 8 inches long and 2 inches wide when closed, it includes a comfortable 3.5 inches of double insulated handle. The handle is long enough to get a good grip on without taking too much space in your tool bag. In addition to being able to cut the sheath off of 12/2 and 10/2 Romex, it can strip 10 and 12 gauge wire. The tool includes a serrated nose for pulling and twisting, guides for looping wire, cutting blades, crimping tool, and the ability to shear 6-32 and 8-32 screws. Shearing is accomplished by threading in the screw to the desired length and closing the handle. Cutting the thicker screw took two hands, but the cut was very clean with no damage to the thread. This tool with cleanly strip the sheath off the Romex and leave the inside wires untouched. The soft spring action makes stripping a bunch of cable less tiring on your hand. Unlock some other tools the spring is protected and not likely to pop out. The lock can easily be accessed with the thumb while holding the tool. While this tool won’t completely replace my current wire stripper, it will be the first one that I grab as it can perform a variety of task efficiently.

I have a NM stripper for 12/2 and 14/2, so this was a nice addition to the bag. I prefer the finish look of using such a stripper as opposed to the “old fashion” way. These cut and strip great. Good feel in the hands.

I have have had this for about a week. For some one like me who runs mostly 12-2 for residential this is great. It also has a 10-2 and that you don’t find to often. Love the handles it feels great in the hands and always nice to have the bolt cutters

This is an innovative hand tool. It cleanly strips 12/2 and 10/2 Romex wire cleanly. It also strips #12 and #10 quickly and cleanly. The stripper strips the insulation efficiently with negligible to no abrasion to the wire.I definitely prefer this tool to the cheap splitters that are out there.Just like the other Southwire tools I’ve used, this stripper feels really good in the hand. The handles ensure a non-slip and comfortable grip. The needle-nose tip provides a firm and stable grip on wire and other small components. The wire cutter cuts wire up to about #6 gauge efficiently. This will be a valuable tool in my tool belt for my next residential projects.

This review is for Southwire’s Romex Wire Stripper tool. This tool has a lot of nice features, that other wire strippers I’ve owned didn’t have. First off you can strip 12/2 or 10/2 wire without even cutting off the outer layer of Romex sheathing. It is also able to perfectly strip the individual 12AWG and 10AWG wires. It has two holes that allow you to perfectly loop both 10 and 12AWG wire, and it allows you to shear 6-32 and 8-32 screws, down to custom sizes. It’s spring loaded so it’s easier to manipulate while stripping than other strippers, and it has a lock so that you don’t need to hold it closed while stripping wires. It has teeth on the end that grip wire well, for pulling, and twisting, and the hand-grips are insulated and comfortable. For the price these wire strippers are a good bang for the buck, and are made of Stainless Steel, so they are built to last.

I’ve had several pairs of wire strips but never a pair that can go through so many different types of material. The strippers are perfect since it has multiple uses. The grip is comfortable and the tool feels very durable.

This is a review of Southwire’s Item #SNM1012 Romex Wire Strippers. They’re made in China..This is a very specific tool, certainly not the ‘universal’ multi-tool you’ll find in most electrician’s buckets. It’s ideal for the guy wiring a residence. So, if that’s mostly what you do, you’ll have this tool in your hands 80% of the time. Now why do I say that? Well, It’s geared towards wiring boxes … think 10/2 [w and w/o G] and 12 ga [w and w/o G] Romex. It won’t help you wiring 14/2 light boxes [including switches] or on the heavier gauges found on on 40-amp and higher circuits. The tool is made from stainless steel … no mention of what type SS, though, so I have no idea how “durable” these will be considering all but expensive ss alloys are ‘softer’ that carbon steel. So that brings it round to the claim on the back of the package … “Stainless steel is 5X more durable that carbon steel per ASTM B117-11.” C’mon folks. I looked that up and it relates to “salt water spray”!What do you think the “teeth” at the nose of the tool are for? I guess to grab and pull.So maybe the type of ss used is more corrosion resistant. As for the “5-yr warranty”? I’m not going to bother going to “southwire tools.com for details.”Secure lock. Comfortable grips. Eye-popping yellow handles.Yes, they will go in the bucket but won’t be replacing anything.

We use them all the time doing residential work. They cut easily and leave a clean cut without having to forcibly pull the insulation apart. They’re not overly long so stripping wires inside a J-box isn’t a chore.

Stainless finish and comfortable hand grips make this tool a pleasure to use. The # 12 and # 10 Romex stripper are a plus since I do more commercial work and deal with more # 10 gauge wire than #14 Gauge wire it is very useful tool. Spring Actuated design is great when stripping multiple wires quickly. Cutting 6/32 and 8/32 screws for devices and boxes are very convenient cuts down on switching tools when are finishing up your intallations.
