I got this about a month ago and wanted to try it a little while to really get a feel for it. At first it was a little strange to use with it always retracting. Once I got use to it retracting, it was quite handy. I never had to worry about forgetting the blade was out and cutting myself. Easy to change the blades and feels comfortable in your hand.

Buying this was the smartest thing I’ve ever done. I find myself using a utility knife all the time regardless of what project I’m working on. This self retractable knife gives me peace of mind knowing I’m not going to accidentally injure myself when working quickly.

I don’t really that anyone could say anything “bad” about this knife. The blade stays in place well, the size & shape are good, replacing the blade is easy enough, & it is certainly a visible color which makes it easier to find in a crowded situation or outside. So it all comes down to personal preference. If you like the concept of a retractable knife that retracts automatically, then this is the one to get. No question. All the features that make Stanley the hands-down favorite knives among professionals are all present in this knife. I personally don’t care for the automatic feature, but that won’t keep me from recommending it.

I have had this product throughtout the 5 years of my apprenticeship and it has been as dependable as I have needed it to be. Also as the title implies the color makes it very difficult to lose. The blade changeout is as easy as can be.

I personally don’t like that I have to keep my thumb on it to keep the blade out. I did read that it was self retractable. However, I thought you could keep it open automatically OR have it permanently retractable. Wrong.

Self retracting feature is not for me but it is a well made product and I do like the blade storage. I could see this being useful for someone cutting up boxes or maybe not that tool savvy. Definitely very hard to accidentally cut yourself with the self retracting feature but it makes it difficult to cut tougher materials or long lengths due to having to manually hold it open.

This knife has just enough force on the spring so that it doesn’t fatigue your hand but retracts quickly.

I’ve been using this at home mostly didn’t expect it to be any different from my older stanley box cutter. But it is first of the color makes it easy to find in an instant. The older one blended with tools on the bench. The texture gives a positive grip when cutting boxes down or cutting through fiberglass strapping.

I like the feel as it is better than my previous Stanley blade. My only complaint is that I cannot lock the blade and have to hold it the whole time. I do like the self-retracting as a safety feature, but not for every day use. I would have liked the hole at the end to be a little large so I could secure it easier to my belt.

I received this knife to use and leave a review. I’m sure the rounded blade works great on opening boxes. I replaced the blade with a pointed blade and use the knife to cut fiberglass insulation to install in walls. It works perfectly for this project. The knife is heavy duty, just need to get used to the retractable function every time.

This utility knife is a classic for a reason. It just plain works! It looks just like the one I saw so many times in my father’s toolbox, and works just as well as his. I don’t remember his having the auto retract but I love it too. Just release and slip into a pocket, safe and easy. It’s definitely red rather than orange but I can live with that.

I was offered this knife to review a few weeks ago and I feel like it lives up to its design purpose which is “Safety Utility Knife”. I appreciated the quality of the spring retracting mechanism; never had an issue with it sticking open. It’s built just as well as Stanley’s other utility knives, no flashy, unnecessary details or accessories. Good construction and durable color. The perfect knife for someone who would keep it on their person and use it for small and quick cuts and then safely put it away without cutting themselves. Good warehouse knife. I believe it’s a good knife but probably not the Stanley knife for my construction and maintenance work where I find it necessary to have a blade that can remain open for longer cuts or situations where I need my whole hand and all fingers to add controlled pressure. Only reason why I didn’t give it 5 stars. Overall a good product!

Excellent knife that also happens to be the safest utility knife I’ve ever used.

Received this Self Retracting Safety Utility knife approx a month ago. i mostly used it to cut and break down boxes. i do a lot of shipping, so I go through a lot of boxes daily.Knife is very well made metal construction. it weights approx 4.9 ounces. and comes with one blade. Would been nice to have a couple extras. The Knife works well in breaking down boxes. Does the job very well. However if you are going to use this for commercial use you might get tired of holding the safety latch all the time.If using for home, it would be great for the safety part, and would work well since you well probably be only use it a few times. All in all I find it a nice knife to keep in the house, and is a great safety feature

Nice and safe. Mechanism works well. Kinda awkward using a hook blade on shingles

Received a Stanley Safety knife as part of their program for an honest review. Giving this high marks was easy. It is solid metal, has a place to store extra blades (the blades are the standard ones used with all cutters), and has a great safety mechanism. You opened the blade like any other, but hold it to cut, when/if you let it go it auto retracts. I am finding I really like this how this works. It is another great tool by Stanley.
