This is a great option for quick jobs. The safety feature of the automatic retract is awesome for someone that needs to use it quickly and often.

This knife is great especially for home use with the safety feature ( I have small children). It could be a plus or a minus depending on your particular desire. The only way the knife stays engaged is by holding the mechanism up with your thumb. The knife has a great grip feel in your hand as well. Appears to be quite durable. Would recommend!

I really liked the self retractor. I think it should lock so one does not have to keep a finger on the mechanism

Received a Stanley Safety knife as part of their program for an honest review. Giving this high marks was easy. It is solid metal, has a place to store extra blades (the blades are the standard ones used with all cutters), and has a great safety mechanism. You opened the blade like any other, but hold it to cut, when/if you let it go it auto retracts. I am finding I really like this how this works. It is another great tool by Stanley.

Needed something that I could slash through opening a shipment soil and gravel bags and then jam back in my pock without having to worry about trying to remember .’….did …i close the damm knife’. More than once I forgot and then found this. perfect knife for when you need to cut a bunch of stuff and dont want one of the stuff to be your leg.

It’s an easy to hold hand tool and the best part is that the blade retracts making it very safe.

I got this from Stanley mail order. Took a few seconds to realize the spring always retracts the blade. This makes it safer to operate and safer to store in your work bag.

I got this knife a few weeks ago. It is a good quality utility knife. Smooth operation, a nice feel to it. The safety blade is a nice feature.

I receive a ton of packages weekly and this is the perfect box opener. A good sturdy feel, automatic retracting blade for safety and the ability to store a few extra blades internally is a great feature. When it’s time to replace the blade, the replacements are right there when you open it. Overall a great product.

Works great with multiple cutting of items in a row, love how the blade retracts when you set it down and not having to grab the open blade every time I pick it back up.

The best use I can see for this knife is in an area where the knife may inadvertently be picked up by someone without knowing/understanding the blade is open, for example, stocking shelves at a store. As a matter of fact, I’ve found I only use this knife to open/break down boxes and packaging. Instead of being in my workbench, it’s in the kitchen junk drawer- and it’s great for the use that I’ve found for it. The automatic retracting feature and blunt tip don’t provide much value. Using your thumb on top of the knife to hold the blade is an awkward position and doesn’t allow for a good grip. Think of how you would hold a knife to sharpen a carpenter’s pencil or cut sheetrock. It would be better if the slider was on the side and could be held by either a thumb or finger. The rounded blade tip makes it difficult to perform some tasks such as cutting sheetrock or a plastic bottle- and could actually cause a slip which is dangerous.

The knife is very sturdy and bright orange and will never get lost!

I used this knife to cut fiberglass insulation. It was perfect for t5his job.

I work in a warehouse club and I bought this for cutting boxes. Before this I was using a pacific safety cutter s4s which is absolute garbage. This knife is great because it takes any standard utility blades which is what I use. The best feature is that the blade stays out while you’re cutting thick things like cardboard so you don’t need to keep holding the slider. This makes it more comfortable to use and the blade automatically retracts when your finish the cut.

I found the self retracting feature quite handy. It helps avoid a possible accident in a tool box or drawer.

Really well made utility knife. Works great and easy to change blades. Easy to find too because of the bright red color. Nice.

This is a nice quality utility knife that would be great for using around the home or for when working around children because of its self retracting safety feature, however, I probably wouldn’t use it on the job site. The rounded blade is great safety wise, but not ideal for someone who works with drywall on a daily basis. We used the knife over the weekend cutting vinyl around a french door we installed. Definitely a great addition to have in my home owners tool box!

Keeping in mind that this is a task specific knife this is another great Stanley product. Stanley has always made the best utility knives and this one is no exception. Great for opening boxes and those frustrating blister packages that are so hard to get into. The self retracting blade is a great feature especially if you have young children in the house. The blunt edge blade works as well as a pointed one for this specific task. Good job Stanley!

The blade automatically retracts when you don’t have the button pushed down. For some jobs, that’s not desired, but that’s why you use a different knife. The orange color lets you know that it’s different from your other knives. The rounded tip blades are an extra level of safety, you might even trust an older child to be able to use it with supervision. I haven’t searched the availability of the rounded tip blades, so I won’t speak to that. If you have a job, especially something like receiving, where you open a lot of boxes and plastic wrap, this knife will do the job, with the reduced chance you’ll cut yourself.

Finding a quality and durable utility knife can be a challenge. It came with a blade that was easy to install and has remained sharp after a couple of uses. It’s also comfortable in the hand when using it over and over.
