I used to have the instantchange knife for years and then I lost it at a job. So i purchased a new one, I was a little dissatisfied with the grip on it. The older on had grips that were more rubbery and this new one has more of a plastic grip. The rubber one was easy to handle, where the new one is a little stiffer and stiff feeling.

It came as part of a Stanley / Black+Decker “Project Kit” and there were no instructions for the knife. I pressed the black button at back of the top and the lower black part of the handle dropped down revealing the blade storage. Hint: Hold the sides at the silver part when you do this. I came here looking for instructions, found the reviews, and gathered that you: “1. Press down and slide holder (silver knob) forward. 2. Push yellow button. 3. insert blade.” I did so, making sure the flat top of the blade went all the way in. At first I couldn’t slide the adjuster back until I pressed the silver knob firmly, then slid my thumb off until it popped up. Now I could press the silver knob and slide it back to retract the blade.

I like this knife but it was a bit heavy for my hands because I have arthritis but overall a very good knife because I’ve used it in the past.

My wife has always had doubt in my handyman skills. But after I showed her all the 1-star reviews complaining how difficult it is to change blades then showed her how effortless it actually was – that settled it.Not to mention I got a reasonably priced, solid knife constructed to last.Highly recommended.

I. Ought thus last year. It’s no as easy as I thought it would be to switch out blades. Less expensive one are easier. I do like the way it fits in my hand. More accurate cutting.

I have owned a lot of utility knives over the last 50 years, and this one tops the list.It is steady in hand , makes a straight cut, and the blade change feature works well. I use it with the Stanley carbide blades for best service

I have plenty of utility knives, but this one is by far my favorite. So much so that I have like 3 or 4 of them. The quick blade change button makes life a whole lot easier. No more breaking out the screw driver to change the blade. The extra blade storage is also a nice touch. This knife feels great in the hand as well. Utility knives are one of those items that just gets thrown around and all beat up over time, but this one can definitely take some punishment. Stanley did a great job with this one.

This knife works great! Nice grip handle! But unless you enjoy the challenge of a chinese puzzle in the middle of a project (when it’s time to switch out the blade) maybe it’s not for you.

This thing feels very nice in your hand. Great grip, solid weight. Very simple & easy to change out the blades. My only complaint would be that the packaging gives no direction on how to open up the storage compartment for extra blades. It took me a little bit to figure out how that black button at the bottom came into play. Overall, would definitely recommend.

Ridiculous packaging! Packaging designed to save a few cents. When I tore off part of it, I realized the rest could not be removed without taking knife completely apart. Finally got it all back together, takes some doing and patience. Now that I have back together, it seems to work but does not feel as secure as the cheaper one screw version. Would not buy again. Get the cheaper Stanley model where you remove one screw to get to the blade. Packaging engineer should be fired!
