Forty-five minutes at least to remove packaging includes time taken to search the web instructions to open the packaging (I found very little instruction but a lot of complaints about packaging). The trick is to get the paper beyond the slot where you open and close the knife. I had to cut, snip and pull. I came very close to returning it to Home Depot.Inserting the blade was not as bad. Had a little challenge but maybe it’s because it’s new to me and I’m still frustrated with the packaging. Beyond that, we’ll see.

I’ve purchased a bunch of utility knives over the years. Different styles, different brands and this one is my favorite. Comfortable and secure grip, one button blade change and blade storage. I am not sure why there are so many negative reviews, but I’ve had mine for several years and it works great.

the knife was good overall. But after extensive use to cut drywall, it was difficult to change the blades. The blade removal button is easily stuck. Overall it is an average knife and an average buy for the price.

This knife is not the easiest to use. I have had the blade come loss while cuting. I would not buy this knife again

I’ve used mine for months. This thing kicks butt and I’ve dragged it through mud, water, you name it.

This is an excellent utility knife for the price. Solid construction, good ergonomics and the 3-blade storage compartment is very convenient. True, the instant blade change instructions were not clear but with some fiddling it is apparent that the blade slider mechanism needs to slide to the very top position to engage the “instant change button”. You DO NOT have to take apart the knife to change the blade.

Love the quick change blade! Took me a little bit to figure it out how to change the blades but I got it worked out.

Was looking for a cutter that was easy to change the blade. This product was what I needed.

For many, a retractable blade knife becomes your pocket knife and this knife can do that too.It has a curved, hand filling grip with a rubber back for your palm and rubber pad at the tip to give your index finger a firm, solid rest for accurate work. With the blade retracted, there is a convenient slot to cut yarn or even a seat belt in an emergency.Reverse your grip and it stays solid in your hand.No tools required to change a blade! Spare blades are contained in the hinged storage compartment in the grip, held safely in place by a well protected but easily accessed latch. To change the blade, fully extend it, push and hold in the yellow button, remove the old blade, insert the new one. All done!My advice? Don’t lend it to anyone, you won’t get it back. All in all, highly recommended!

if the yellow button does not release the blade and you have to open this knife (by removing the two screws) you need 4 hands to put this tool back together. clever idea but I am going back to a simple fixed blade knife in a holster…

I have used this knife for years, I own propably a dozen of them. The blade change is flawless if you know what you are doing, push blade all the way forward, past last stop and push yellow tab as directed, easy peasy. The curved handle fits your hand much better than a straight knife. Keep up the good work Stanley.

Packaging was cumbersome to remove by the knife works well

I love the quick change of blades. I constantly use this feature and it saves a lot of time compared to the screw.

I buy multiple “box cutters” at a time as somehow they disappear…..So bought 5 of these recently. Like fact that blades are stored in handle and do not have to take knife apart to get new blade. All that said, of the 5 I bought, 4 were fine but the blade slide on one would not move at all. Understand these are made probably at 1000’s per hour but 1 out of 5 bad is not good quality control. I was able to take defective cutter apart and get proper alignment on slide mechanism but most people would not. SO…..if you buy, might be fine or might not….
