Where can you get replacement blades for the No. 4 Sweetheart plane? Additionally where can you purchase replacement parts for this plane? Cannot find any replacement blades at various vendors. Very surprised!!

Excellent plane. Thin shavings right out of the box with no pre-honing of the blade. I would definitely purchase Stanley Sweetheart planes as they become available. I think they standup well against Lie-Nielson and Veritas more expensive planes.

I’m new to woodworking. This is my first hand plane. After watching YouTube videos by Paul Sellers, I decided to buy the Stanley #4 Sweetheart plane. After a brief learning period, I became very comfortable with this plane and was soon producing beautiful shavings. HD had the best price, too!

This plane is high quality. I know there are more expensive examples but this is a good one.

Nice, sharp blade right out of the box. I put it to work after the expected adjustments (blade depth and center, chip breaker and mouth) I was cutting transparent ribbons in no time. I am new to hand tools, did my research and this is a nice fit for my workshop needs.

I own 2 other of Stanley Sweetheart planes and they are a good deal, this one needed the least amount tuning of all, the iron needed a better edge and the rest just a little relieving of some edges less than hour for all of it and it was good to go. I wish Stanley made a low angle # 4 or 4 ½, already have the 62 low angle and love it.

This jewel has saved me from having to buy a $1,500+ joiner. I’ve used this baby to shape concave boards, twisted boards, and concave/twisted boards. It arrived ready to use right out of the box. I made shear shavings without even having to sharpen the blade. Great device and I don’t even regret giving $149 for it since the price has now dropped to $119. Although, a $30 savings would be nice.

By far and away the best plane I own. I reach for this one more often than my veritas, that should say it all. Kudos to stanley.Oh paint job is awful, but literally everything else about this plane is spot on.

The #4 Stanley Sweetheart is a very nice mid level hand plane. Immediately out of the box I set it up as a smoother and it didn’t disappoint. After flattening the back and sharpening/honing it, it works like a charm. Did some minor lapping on the sole and got it to within .001 flat. Good enough for what I’m doing. There are 2 reasons I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5. One….can’t find a replacement blade (to change bevel angles), and two….works amazing on straight grained wood, but anything with knots or changing grain direction it’s only ok. If you deal with figured wood, I would recommend the Veritas low angle smoother with a 50 degree blade, although at a MUCH higher price point.

Mine came with a small machined defect on the side of the throat it isn’t very noticeable, and I doubt it’ll cause any problems, but still even cheap planes come with clean machining It’s ok flat, as in I’ll still need to tune it before using it; like any other plane, and you will need to sharpen the blade. It’s still a good plane though, but perfect it is not. Just don’t get your expectations to high and it’s not too bad.

I own many Stanley planes–this is far and away the best of the lot. It performed superbly right out of the box with no tuning.

The Stanley Sweatheart is an upgrade from the Stranley Bailey. Not quite up ther with Lie-Nielsen but well worth the money. No honing needed on arrival, good feel and balance.

I have a small collection of working hand planes and this little guy is sweet. Fit and finish are great. The extra weight of this smoother surpasses it’s No.4 1/2 brethren and really makes for a good reliable plane. The blade and cap iron are well done and only needs a little honing before use, though I do suggest a nice micro bevel to bring a higher attack angle for figured wood. After opening the box it only took 10 minutes to clean the plane and hone the blade to start making shavings. It was practically ready out of the bag. The cap iron is aluminum but that’s not an issue, and the Norris style adjuster works quite well. For those with qualms about that they need to read the instructions and not tighten the poor thing so much as to compromise it’s features. Once you have the iron set where you are happy….then you can tighten it a bit more.Altogether I am very pleased with my purchase and have used this plane alot. I’m getting glass like finishes on hard woods and couldn’t be happier especially for the price

This plane is as the name states “a sweetheart”. I took it out of the box, removed the protective film on it and got to work on a dresser I’m making for my grandson. Excellent tool! It has good weight, easy to adjust, and with the extra thick A2 blade it cut with little effort, leaving a very smooth surface with no sanding needed. And no chatter either. Some of the shavings I was able to get were so thin, I could see my finger in back of them. I am so impressed with this plane I ordered the Stanley low angle block plane to compliment this one. And the price was excellent also.

This new design is solid, and I like the intended functionality, however the finish and quality of the construction is lacking big time….My plane iron is not flat, and eventually I will get it honed down, but it’s a huge amount of time on an A2 steel tool. The brass slide of the front knob is stamped metal, and one side was sharp enough to cut the user, I had to file that, and all of the top line curves were left unfinished. The tool has printed letters on the side of the shoe, so if you level the sides and shoe, you rub off the printed information, why? That should have been stamped into the metal or etched. It’s taking a lot of work to set this plane up properly.

Just received this plane. Used it a little and think it is a great value. Looking forward to using it in the future

I have to say, I absolutely love this plane. I’m still relatively new to woodworking, and it’s only my second bench plane (have a No 5 Bailey, which is great as well, but took more work to get sharpened and dialed in). It was usable pretty much out of the box, and was even better after sharpening.

Plane is great for a novice like myself. Took about 3-4 hours to get the back of the iron flat and the bevel correct up to 4000 grit

Ready to use out of the box. Honing is all that will be needed unless you want a slight arch on your iron.
