The plane is very well made, oozes high quality. After unpacking, cleaning the shipping oil from the bare metal services with alcohol and checking all screws were tight it was ready to use in 5 mins. Have since sharpened the blade once on a diamond stone and an able to take 001″ shavings with ease.

By far and away the best plane I own. I reach for this one more often than my veritas, that should say it all. Kudos to stanley.Oh paint job is awful, but literally everything else about this plane is spot on.

I’ve had this for a year. I’ve used it about 5 times to flatten boards mostly pine but some hardwood. The only thing that I had to do when I received it was to hone the blade but I could have used it as is. Everything else was fine. The sole was flat and the chip breaker was flat. I like the Norris design. It’s simple and elegant. The only negative is that there is a lot of free play in the adjustment knob.

Great quality. Taking wispy shavings right out of the box.

This plane was not machined to the tolerances of higher end planes, however, it doesnt cost what they do either. At the price point HD is selling this for, it is an excellent value. The biggest overall complaint is the lever cap (cap iron) is thin aluminum. If it was iron or bronze this would be 5 stars easy. My particular plane after unpacking and examining it seemed immaculate, however running it over a smooth board proved otherwise. It left horrible scratches in several spots showing it had metal burrs from machining. After about an hour with a file, all were fixed. Just beware you may have to do some tuning to get the plane to the expectations youre looking for. Highly recommended if you dont want to pay for a Lie-Nielsen/Clifton or Veritas plane.

I was hesitant to purchase this plane when I discovered that it is made in Mexico. The tool however is very well built and of excellent quality. The workmanship is as good as any of the previously made Stanley planes that I own.

The plane’s sole was off. I needed to sand it and spend some work on it. Of course, this plane is not a $300.00 plane. But, it is still an awesome tool.

Good product right out of the box. Much better after a little tuning. Noticed more slop in the backlash of the depth adjustment than I care for. Strategy is to creep up to desired depth of cut.

Worked great right out of the box.

It is an excellent plane. I found it to be flat where it counts, and with minor setup, it cut perfectly. -BlakeT: It’s likely that your negativity killed the plane, and its soul was transitioning to another plain.

I’ve shopped around extensively for the best price on a Stanley No. 4, and Home Depot easily beat any competition. Plus free shipping to my front door. My Stanley Sweetheart is the cat’s meow of bench planes.

This plane was usable right out of the box. However, I did return two other planes from another retailer due to the sole being out of flat. For some reason, HD sent me the best unit. Everything was nearly ideal. The sole was flat within my tolerance, the blade was very sharp and the chip breaker was flat. The quality of the product was very high. The fit and finish was excellent. The performance was excellent as well. I have used the plane on three projects and the shavings were paper thin. I don’t know if there are differences from different sources but I would recommend buying from HD over others.
