I build custom cabinets and fine furniture so I have many planes. A number of these are older Stanley planes including several new old stock. This block plane has all the features I want plus a blade that is wider than the normal block plane. While not inexpensive, this is worth every Penney and will be handed down to my son. Thanks for resurrecting the Sweetheart line.

I’ve had this plane a while now and have not got it set up to where it actually works. Not knowing much about planes I bought it.

I own a bunch of old stanley planes and other older bench planes and I’m very impressed with the quality of this plane. Out of the box it was capable of being finely adjusted and making very thin shavings. Yes you could hone the blade ( i hone the blades on all my other planes – using the scary sharp method) and it would probably improve it but it was acceptable without doing anything. The overall construction is very heavy and solid (the iron itself is very thick at about 1/8″). I know these newer ‘sweetheart’ planes have some mixed reviews and those concerned me a bit, but now after having bought the plane and used it, I’m glad I did. I probably will buy some of the other newer ‘sweetheart’ planes based on my experience with this plane. One thing I didn’t care for is that there is a bit of backlash in the screw adjustment, but that’s not a big deal because you can clearly feel when it’s engaging the iron.Other reviewers have criticized the aluminum lever cap, but again, this is not concerning because the design does not require a huge amount of force to hold the blade firmly in place so I’m not concerned with these threads stripping. The lever cap seems like a high quality piece, just like the rest of the plane.Overall for the price I paid, I’m very happy with it. No it’s not a LN or “V” plane but then again, I didn’t pay those prices either….

Straight out of the box Stanley had very sharp blade and I am super happy how it works.

I do all kinds of planing with it and it is my go to plane.

I really like this block plane. It came flat and square out of the box and, after a few minutes honing the iron, produced suitably fine shavings. As with my other Stanley Sweethart planes sourced from Mexico, the fit and finish is excellent. A very good value for the money.

Great plane. If in the future it needs a restoration, the parts are set up for an easy restoration. Great look and feel.

Very nice out of the box about 10 mins of tuning and it was off to the wood projects very nice block plane for the money.

Had this for years, replaced a cheap horrible version. A pleasure to use in the hand. For the money this is exceptional. Blade holds a great edge a long time. Don’t over tighten the Hold down knob, it does not need it. You don’t need to spend twice the money on a different brand, this is a superb tool.

The best plane I have used for a long while. I was gutted when the little brass nut in the middle of the plane broke though. My blockbplane has sat on the shelf for the past 2 years because I can’t get hold of that nut.

Finish was not as good as previous purchases. Slight honing was done and works well.

I had the opportunity recently to try out Block Planes of all types. from Vertas and Lie Nielson to some 100 year old block planes fixed up. For the price there is nothing that even comes close to it in quality and performance. The wider size fits perfect in my hands and the 1/8″ blade helps the performance. I highly recommend this tool.

Bought this several months ago and have been fairly pleased with it. Did have to remove some machining burrs to get the parts to seat properly. However, there is one problem I just noticed today. The main post which is used to anchor the blade assembly in the center of the plane body is off location perhaps a sixteenth of an incc from side to side, which does limit the lateral adjustment slightly. That being said, for the price, it’s still worth it, I think.
