A beautiful hand tool. This plane is far beyond just a hand plane. It is comfortable in your hand like a glove and solid as well as a fine looking instrument. Anyone that appreciates quality will love it.

I have and use dozens of planes. I bought this plane on a whim because it’s closest competitor by LV/V is triple the price. Because of the price difference, I was actually surprised that this plane is so good. Please take some of the lower ratings with a grain of salt. Most of those negative reviewers have no experience with hand planes. The problems they’re experiencing are totally due to USER ERROR on their part, and not an issue with the plane. Firstly, my plane arrived perfectly sharpened and honed razor sharp. There were no issues with the blade. This plane uses a Norris adjuster which is different from old school Stanley and was common on English planes. If you do not know how to use a Norris adjuster, then carefully read the instructions and learn about it. Norris adjusters can be damaged if used improperly. Another incident of USER ERROR. The Norris is a very good mechanism! Next is fit and finish. A few years ago FWW magazine compared this plane to some of the best block planes. They rated the performance Excellent and I agree. Straight from the package I was getting good shavings and more importantly, a glass smooth planed surface. The surface was so smooth that I was absolutely certain it was just a fluke. It is not a fluke. I have been running this plane through the ringer to find a performance weakness and I have not succeeded. I think FWW got it right. They did think fit and finish could be better. The machining and fitting of parts is very good to excellent in all the areas that it needs to be. This is not a flashy high end collector plane that you show your friends. It is a superior performing user plane. I will not comment on the paint finish except to say I wish it were better. Lastly, I have plenty of high end planes and this one is not a LN or LV plane. It also only cost one third the price but you are nearly getting all the performance. HD will let you buy the plane and try it out. Please make sure you have some understanding of how to operate and use the plane. If you do that then you will discover that this plane definitely is worth the look!
