It is a very versatile tool and after sharpening it I was able to get whisper thinking shavings.

Does just what it was designed to do and with the quality of the old Stanly products

Bottom of the line shoulder plane that works. Need to flatten it slightly but that is to be expected these days of sloppy quality control.

I own several Stanley Sweet Heart planes and chisels and this one is of the same great quality and construction as the rest

So I was a bit hesitant purchasing this plane after reading some bad reviews about it. I read in other blogs that when this plane was brought back to existence, there were some flaws in the casting, but those have been rectified and works great. I also believe that almost all the new hand planes are produced in the UK where they still have a large traditional woodworking community. The plane came to me ready to use out of the box. I had just completed cutting some tenons on a saw bench I was making and it made quick work squaring up and cleaning the shoulders. I have now used it to clean up several shoulders on tenons and rabbets that I have cut and have had no problems. I have not even had to sharpen the iron yet.I highly recommend this shoulder plane for the entry or intermediate level woodworker. Works great on shoulders up to 5/8-inch. If you want a larger shoulder plane, I recommend the medium or large shoulder plane from Lie-Nielsen, but this plane is well within everyone’s budget and will work on almost any home project.

Very nice plane. Works perfectly and just a fraction of the cost of other brands. Same great quality as the Sweetheart chisels.

I took it out of its final wrapping, adjusted it and went to removing wood. It is very good at starting a ledge on a box, which I accomplished.First plane that accommodated my effort and direction. What a sweetheart.

Excellent tool. Great feel and square in all ways. You can spend a lot more on a plane but this is a real deal for a quality product.

The plane was of excellent quality. It is square, flat, both sides parallel and the iron was sharp and work-ready.This is the Stanley quality my father told me about. Although it is produced in Mexico, the machining is of very high skill. A quality tool.

I am very pleased with this shoulder/chisel plane. It is a well made and simple to use plane that meets all of the needs I have for a shoulder plant (my primary need). One can spend nearly double the money for the same plane from some other retailers, or spend way more for a similar plane from other manufacturers. After looking at many other offers, I find it very hard to justify spending a lot more money for this type plane, particularly when this one is made so well and fits the hand so well. The only thing I had to do to it to make it ready to use was to ease the edges slightly with a file (they can be fairly sharp from the factory), and put a fine edge on the iron. Ready to use!

Overall a nice plane. Works fine and the blade was sharp out of the box.Machining was rough but not difficult to clean up.Sides were square to the sole.

I bought this after some thought and research. It seems to do what I want it to do just fine. Hard to say what more anyone would want from a tool.

I bought this plane online over a year ago from HD, so I’ve had it a while. It has a decent sharp edge out of the box, which I was a bit surprised at actually. I used it to clean up some rebates on a wood project of mine. It does an awesome job. I had no problems with squareness of the blade nor it’s width nor any of the other problems I have read online. I think it’s a very high quality tool and I wish stanley offered more of these kind of higher end planes. Although it’s not a cheap plane per se I highly recommend it.

This was a gift to my brother, who is a master carpenter. He was extremely pleased with it and was so happy I got it for him. To be clear, he did have this on his wish list, so I knew exactly what to buy. He loved it!!

Needed a good way to clean up several rabbets for keepsake boxes, and this little plane fit the bill and budget. Came out of the box sharp, square, and ready. A great addition to my tool chest.
