Picked up a set of these chisel at Menards they had on sale for $64.00 no Home Depot in my area. But very good set for the money came sharp just needed a little polishing. Seem to hold a good edge even in hard wood.

I use this chisels for fine wood woodworking projects and great results. I have used them to inset hanging hardware and to make a pencil box carved at of one piece of black walnut.

the chisels are well made and sharp, the leather pouch is ok but doesn’t really protect the chisels from dropping out when carrying. It was good to see that the cutting ends were also protected by a cap. The chisels were helter skelter in the shipping package when received, could have been packaged better. But all in all a good set for the price.

I am a cabinet maker/finish carpenter and needed another set of tool box chisels, didn’t want to spent to much but also didn’t want the chisels that are available in the store. I read the reviews of the Bailey chisels and thought that they might work as long as i spend the time to true them up. I think that Stanley must have decided to machine these to a higher finish than they did previously. I will still work on them but only because I like my tools a certain way, these could be used as they arrived. really should be fine tuned, but if you are not a professional woodworker they will be fine, and if you are a professional you would probably work an any chisel before use. I am not a big fan of the stained handles but i can get past that.

The metal on one of the chisels was nicked on the edge, a manufacturing defect and not from dropping on a hard surface. Customer care offered me a 10% discount or an exchange. Chisels are from Sheffield and am looking forward to using them.

This is the nicest set of chisels I’ve owned so not knowing how much better it could be I am hesitant to give it 5 stars. They really are very nice though. They were pretty flat out of the box and sharp enough to put to work right away.

Three years ago I inherited my father’s woodshop equipment. Making some things the family ordered, I needed some chisels. Using my chisels, I fell in love with hand tools. I’ve progressed to needing a solid workbench to replace my rickety plywood bench. Tackleing through mortises in my 4 1/4″ top was time consuming but I made it! I now have a solid, indestructable, solid oak and walnut Bench. Nobody has has a better bench or set of chisels.

I love this chisel set. I compared it to my expensive English set and found it comparable as far as edge retention, ease of handling, and durability.

Decent chisel set for the money. Once prep’d on a stone and emery they were very sharp, however, they do not keep their edge long. Granted I have been using them on white oak which a hard wood, I expected them to keep an edge longer than a few passes. The 1 1/4″ chisel came with a significant nick that took many passes on the stone to remove. Nice leather pouch though.

Good for the price. You can use all of them as they come, then start sharpening them as soon as needed.

I have had these for a little while now. I don’t do a lot of work where I need to have a chisel but it is nice to have a decent one when I do. They have served me well and I look forward to using them more.

The chisels worked great after I stoned all of the chipped cutting edges true. They were delivered in a very damaged box and were bouncing around loose in the box. They hold their edge well and the included leather wrap/pouch works well. The chisels are great for a moderately priced set. The shipping method, not so much.

This is the Bailey set, not the Sweetheart set. I am not an experienced woodworker so I decided to start with this set as I assumed that the steel was probably the same in both sets, don’t know about that. Though they are both made in the UK. They seem okay, the backs are flat and don’t require much to get them shiny and remove the machine marks. The bevel is another story. Though the edge was okay, the bevel was not smooth on all the chisels. The larger widths did have some irregularities that could not easily be removed with a stone, probably would need to be ground to make the whole bevel uniform. Since I feel like the cutting edge is the thing, I just did my best with the sharpening. Will see how things go after I’ve been using them for awhile. In the future will probably invest in a better set.
