These chisels compete and equal all the finest brands out there for fine woodworking!! Please keep in mind these are for woodworking, NOT carpentry. These are intended to be struck with a wooden carvers or joinery mallet: nothing metallic or too hard of a rubber…that said if you can follow these basic rules, there are none better chisels out there..frankly I’m shocked that the HD even carries these. The quality is among the best out there, competing with much more expensive brands such as Lie Nelson. The handles are a standard socket type and transfer much more energy to the workpiece than do other types. These handles are removable on purpose so that new ones may be made (tuned) to your liking. Been using these for quite some time and have to say they hold an edge very well, they required very little flattening and once the primary bevel angle is set only honing with very fine grit stones are required to remain razor sharp.Great value, extremely high quality and overall amazing tool.

For me, these came out of the box pretty darn sharp and very flat. They required very little tuning and I think I could have gotten away without tuning at all. The machine marks were very clean and they didn’t require any flattening. Right out of the box, the blades were very sharp, easily cutting paper. I honed them ever-so-slightly just because I’m sick and enjoy doing so, even though they probably didn’t need it. These are completely worth the money spent.

Great set of chisels that hold a edge. Just make sure to flatten the backs before sharpening.

Pros: Light and comfortable in hand. Affordable. They are holding an edge well. Have only used 2 of them for roughly 4 hours total but very nice. Edges were honed and ready.Cons: They were obviously cnc milled. Which is fine with me but to get rid of the tracks left by the mill end, it took some work. I decided to leave the marks on all sides eccept the bottom plate. Leather roll is very nice but not good for razor sharp chisels. The plastic caps on the ends fall off and stay in the channels of the leather sleaves. I suppose i will repurpose it for my dividers or calipers or something.

These were purchased as a gift but I have experience with them in the past. They are all sharpened up and waiting for me to make a nice wooden storage box for them and send them on to their new home. Thanks.

The classic Stanley socket chisel. Beautifully designed, well built, and a pleasure to use. Like all great chisels and hand planes, these will require a little love before use — flattening the backs and honing the edges. This process went smoothly with no surprises, and the end result were chisels with mirror-finishes, sharper than surgical tools.

Take a fair amount of setting up and initializing as all great woodworking equipment does. I suspect I’ll have to replace the handles eventually, but all in all I think the steel will last long enough for my wee ones to start using them.

These chisels are fantastic in design and take an edge well. My only gripes being they took a few hours of work flattening the backs and they loose their edge easier than say an A1 or 02 steel chisel would.
