This is a very nice chisel set, even for a professional. They are the best chisels for the price. There are better chisels out there, but they are much more expensive. These are ready to use, right out of the box. They hold an edge better than 90% of the other brands. The backs are surprisingly flat (important for fine chisel work) and very little adjusting is needed. These are not chisels for hogging out structural lumber and things like that. These are for making precision cuts in furniture and exposed joinery.

Made like tools were 100 years ago. Great quality, made in England. Kind of expensecive, but worth the money. Fits in my hand well. Light weight. I have been a cabinet maker for 40 years. These are the best chisels I have owned.

Good quality at a good price, made in England. These should last a lifetime if looked after.

Fit and finish not the greatest, the 1 1/4” chisel had a badly convex back. It took a day to slowly fix correctly . Other than that the rest sharpened up just fine.

Nice comfortable fit and not a lot of work to flatten the backs

The chisels are sharp, and have good appearance, they are a little lighter than I expected. The suede rap case is nice and thick. They do fit my hands well. I haven’t had a real chance to sharpen or use the chisels on a project to rate there performance. Overall appearance is good. HD has the best price out there, I got the 8 piece set for what others charge for the 4 piece set.

I’m a novice woodworker, and having only used very cheap chisels before, these make a huge difference. They seem to hold an edge very well, and the assortment of sizes down to an 1/8” has already come in handy. I also have Stanley Sweetheart hand planes, which I also really like.

Great chisel set. Took a little while to flatten and sharpen but not too bad.Only negative I can find is the sizes are not marked on the chisel’s

I purchased the 8 piece chisel set, complete with a top quality leather tool roll. The chisels are made of excellent quality Sheffield steel. They take an awesomely sharp edge with oilstones, waterstones or wet dry paper on granite. The “heft” is lighter that you’d think but it allows for a balanced tool that is not “bottom heavy”. The handles are sturdy. They can be struck but I tend to push them and tap lightly when paring and chopping respectively. For the money, I dont think that you can buy a better chisel. These are bound to be hierlooms for the next generation to whom you pass these down.

Exceeded expectations.

Very nice tool and reasonably priced. Definitely a professional tool and an experienced woodworker knows that sharpening is a must. These are reasonable sharp from the factory but will need some work before use.

The only reason I did not rate these chisels as 5 stars is because the surface is a bit on the course side and they require some work to flatten the backs and hone the edge before you can use them. The overall design is excellent and to be completely honest I knew what I was getting before I ordered them from reviews I had read. Alternatively I could have bought the Lie Nielson chisels at a much higher cost and reduced the work necessary to to get them in top condition. I chose to save the money and do the added extra work.

These come ground but will need a final sharpening before use. One chisel of the set had an edge ding that I was able to remove while sharpening. I have not used them much so I can’t comment on how well they retain their edge. The handles are quite small so plan on one hand holding onto the chisel steel when you use them. If your work style is two hands on the handle these are not for you. Also as the tang does not extend through the handle these are not for pounding with a hammer. Gentle taps with a wood mallet only. The ding that I removed and the small handles are why they get 4 stars.
