Very nice set of chisels at a reasonable price

The chisels were great, but the packaging should, in my estimation, be more sturdy. A couple of the chisels had cut through the plastic container during shipping. Something that sharp ought to be put into a wooden box or something. Other than that, they are great tools!

I bought these because they were Sheffield steel. Most chisel sets in this price range are made of chineseium (aka very low grade, and poorly tempered steel) and I had hopes these would actually hold an edge. To my delight they do. They were usable right out of the box, but after a bit of honing you can peel the end grain off a pine board pretty smoothly.I don’t use these every day and I rarely use them on anything harder than poplar but thus far I’ve been well pleased with how the edge has held up.As someone else said in their review, the case is pretty much useless. Then again if you have a need for decent chisels, you probably have the ability to make a case for them, which is exactly what I did.

Loved the other customer reviews of this product. Extremely high quality. REQUIRING MINIMAL HONING BEFORE USE.

Chisels are very nice….everything I hoped they would be. However the case they come in could not be cheaper. When they arrived three of them were loose as the case opened during shipping. One of the larger chisels had a small chip in the cutting edge. Normally I would return and ask for a new set , but after reading other reviews I see this is a common complaint. I can re dress the edge and not have to gamble with returning the whole set and hoping the new set doesn’t have the same problem. I would suggest Stanley adds a dollar the the price and figures out a little bit better case for these. That would be at least twice what they spent on the case they come in. So chisels nice ……case and shipping…junk

Good quality set.

I would rate as a really good deal for the price I paid. The sharpened edges have some slight flaws which with just a slight better QC should have been avoided. I will likely have to pay more for a good set of honing stones and guide than I did for the chisels. But again a really good value.

These chisels are probably the single best choice for regular carpentry, rough carpentry, framing and general construction. As close to indestructible as any I’ve seen. Although not intended for cabinetmaking, they can be used in a pinch. Good British Sheffield steel holds an edge without chipping or roll over if you sharpen properly. (Don’t forget to flatten the backs! Only needs to be done once, but most skip this step and it makes a big difference.) Although you CAN use these chisels with a steel hammer, I never will. I use a mallet and five years later, mine still look new! For the quality, my set was an exceptional value. Paying more wouldn’t improve performance. Again, for standard carpentry, (which is how 99% of people will use them,) these are the best chisels available. Get the 750 Sweethearts for cabinetmaking. These chisels are another example of why Stanley is still around after 175 years.

Chisels are good. Sharp out of box. One chipped though, so need to repair myself or exchange. The product description indicates “Blade guard can be mounted to wall for home storage” … I interpreted this as … (1) there is a blade guard, and (2) blade guard can be mounted on wall. The chisels came in a plastic case (which probably could be mounted on the wall). The case interior divider for the chisels is an insert made out of thin white plastic, that, if you hung the case with the chisels facing out and opened the case, I think the chisels would fall out. Thus, for me, the case is useless for hanging. It is fine if you want to place it on a shelf, but I think the thin white plastic dividers would break fairly quickly.I wish the set included a cheap pouch with individual sleeves for each chisel. That would have made this purchase perfect for me… I could hang the pouch, roll and carry pouch with me … Suggestion to manufacturer, if this can be accomplished in cost effective manner!

So far, so good. Out of the box, they cut through oak like butter. Umm… The case looks way nicer online then it actually is. But hey, I bought they chisels for the chisels. The case is extra.

I would rate these chisels overall as decent for general service chisels. Good quality and durable. The problem for me is Home Depot also sells the DeWalt line of chisels and as I own both sets, I find them to be identical to each other with sole exception of the handles being slightly different in color mostly but equally serviceable. Other than that, they are the same product, right down to the identifying printing on the chisels, size feel and steel. The DeWalt chisels are also less expensive and offer more size selection. While both sets are very good I am returning the Stanleys as I see no need to have 2 collections of identical chisels at twice the price as well. Go with the Dewalts and save some money. Trust me. They are the same.

I’m going to start this by saying Stanley replaced all the chisels without any stress on my part. Now for what happened. There were a number of things wrong with my set when I picked it up at Home Depot. First, the cutting edge of the largest chisel looked like it was used to cut a pin. In other words, the cutting edge had nicks in it. Next, there were dents in the sides of the chisels. Some of the handles were twisted meaning that if you rested the chisel with the un-beveled end down, the thumb print divot would not be facing up. That could be considered esthetic, but since I’m paying for new chisels I expect them to be pristine instead of looking slapped together and rushed out the door. The handles themselves looked cracked. They were not. It was just the mold made a crease in the handle. Finally, the white plastic thing and the box the chisels came in was beat up. Lots of scratches and cuts where the sharp chisel ends hit the plastic. Again, the good news is Stanley replaced it easily for me.
