Bought to supplement my other chisels for a timber frame project. Sharp out of the packaging, retains its edge and handles well

I purchased this chisel for my son to use in turning pens on a lathe. He was injured at age 15 and as a result, has some motor skill issues. This chisel is not really designed to be used on a lathe, but compared in price to wide lathe chisels it was worth a look. To my surprise, it has performed wonderfully. He has been able to turn pens that are straight and smooth with this chisel. They look perfect and he has been able to sell some for as much as $45! So this is a well made tough chisel, that can be used in ways that are outside its’ original design scope. I would recommend this chisel to anyone.

The back was very flat and the sides were parallel. These facts are/were important in having the ability to sharpen the bevel correctly to get the best use out of the tool. Even though big and bulky, I needed the chisel for wood working applications and this worked out very well.

I was disappointed that one chisel had small nicks, but I fixed them with ease. Stanley chisels I have had for years so these are replacements. I would highly recommend them.
