When not using a powered saw, for smaller projects, this back saw is perfect. It cuts smooth and easy. Especially paired with a miter box, cuts are precise and makes the job easy.

This saw is quick to get through a 2×4 as well as making nice and accurate cuts as well!

I will start off and say the saw feels great in the hand. It has a really hefty weight over the blade. I think it is due to the steel back. Unfortunately Stanley does not make a real high tooth count back saw to compliment this one. I have only made a dozen or so cuts with it in soft and hardwoods, mainly oak and pine. With the minor use so far the teeth are still laser sharp, as they are induction hardened and should last a long time from moderate to heavy use. The tooth count is good enough to make it a sash saw or tenon saw, but I wouldnt want to try to use it to cut dovetails.

This saw has a nice and thin kerf and produces a clean cut with very little tear out on the back side of the cut. I have found that the blad is rigid but not too stiff. The only issue I have is that the handle is a little small. I have a larger hand, and I have to wear XL-2XL gloves. This made the handle uncomfortable for my hands.

If you are new to wood working or just need a backsaw for general purpose use, this is a pretty good one to start out with. It’ll handle just about anything you throw at it, even PVC and plastic. Cuts really well and the teeth should hold their edge for awhile, even with daily use.

I’ve been happy with the construction and effectiveness of this saw. The teeth do a good job at providing clean cuts with minimal tear out, and the handle is pretty ergonomic and feels good in the hand.

This saw cuts like butter. I’d been using an older saw for a while and finally got frustrated. This saw proved that the problem wasn’t me getting old, ha! Cuts straight, clean kerf, and good for rip and cross cuts. I love the feel of cutting with a good Japanese style back cut saw, and this one seems to have quality teeth that make using it a pleasure.

The Stanley miter saw cuts quickly and makes fine cuts in wood and plastic trim. Its worth the price.

I bought the Stanley FatMax to cut tenons in 2” thick solid red oak. The saw performs admirably. It cuts straighter than a much more expensive saw that I also own.

I love Stanley tools. I especially enjoyed the FATMAX saw. The handle is comfortable and the This saw worked wonderfully. The ease with which I was able to cut was superb. I am working on projects around the house and several of your tools were used. I highly recommend using Stanley Brand Tools.

I like the length. A very comfortable saw to use. Very well made. I used it for picture frame mitering, hand cut dovetail and box joints for wooden keepsake boxes, and straight and miter cuts on molding and millwork. This saw performed great on all of these tasks.

OK for general woodworking but not so great for detail work. TPI too low for my needs.

The Stanley 14 inch FatMax Back Saw has sharp, evenly spaced and sized teeth. The handle has a rubber grip and it is comfortable to hold. This saw worked out really well to size the wood floor pieces we used to replace carpeting in the living room and dining room.

I used this to shorten some shelves I was building and it did great. Super easy.

I used it to cut some tenons and it performed very nicely. The cuts were quick and clean. I wish I had started using this saw before. I would definitely recommend this product.

Saw is better than the original saw that came with the mitre box I bought about 25-30 years ago.

I bought this to hand cut dovetails on a woodworking project and it performed better than expected.Very stiff back keeps cuts very accurate.

I have a pretty decent selection of saws, some for woodworking and others for general carpentry. This back saw fits somewhere in the middle. It’s great for finish work like crosscutting moldings and also useful for dimensioning cabinet components. Is it as good as my fancy brass-backed carcass saw? Well no, it isn’t – but surprisingly close for one tenth the price. What I really like about this saw (besides it’s very reasonable price) is that it easy to start and cuts very cleanly. What I don’t love about it is the handle. It’s a closed handle rather than a pistol grip, which I prefer for this type of saw, and is set at a higher angle to the blade than I find comfortable. Also, neither a pro or a con – the induction hardened teeth, while very sharp and sturdy, make the saw a throw-away when they eventually dull.
