3 years and running strong! Have used it on the rain, it’s been dropped, and been through hundreds of charges.

I received this light as a gift about 1 1/2 years ago…I had a previous Stanley spotlight before…it died after about 1 year of service but is was nice while it lasted so my son bought be another one. Worked well for about 1 year, but the last 6 months, I noticed the light would automatically turn off after being on about 3-4 minutes. I depressed the switch again, the light would come on again for another 3-4 minutes…I repeated this cycle about 8-9 times, then it would stay on as designed. About 2 weeks ago, I dropped it on the floor from my desk…about 2 1/2 feet drop…it stopped working… I engaged the switch, the LED indicator light next to the charging port comes on but no main light. I’m really a bit disappointed…even though I dropped it, I would expect a work light to be a little more durable and reliable.Checked YouTube for some solutions…no luck…been online for customer service the last 30 minutes…not good…Most of the reviews had more serious issues and the light beam throw is great so I rated this as average but I am going to look closer at other spotlights and the reliability before I make another purchase.

Great light for the lower end of the price points for waterproof spot lights. I bought this light a year ago and it only lasted one night gigging. But, the light was zip tied to a piece of pvc pipe and underwater upside down for 3 hours. The next time I tried to use it the trigger would not work. I took it back and got a replacement light. I learned it is not entirely waterproof and I would not leave it underwater now for more than a few minutes. The light is definitely a spot and not flood. The spot of the light is decent, probably 100 yards on high and 25 yards on low. Seems to have a cool white light rather than a warmer color as well.Since, the replacement I have used the light for a year and had no issues. Infrequent use of 2-3 times a month for 4-6 hours periods continuous low output and infrequent short periods on high (I leave the light on low beam on my kayak at night so I can find it when I walk along the shore and for safety while paddling at night. I will pick it up to spot thing occasionally on high). I only charge the light when the indicator light is yellow or red. The parasitic drain seems negligible on the battery over the period of 3 months, could not say for extended periods. Since I am not sure if the batteries are protected or not I try and not over charge the lamp and when the light turns green pull it off and do not let it sit for extended periods. I do tighten the back with pliers when I go on the water as well to get a slightly better seal.

This is the second FatMax I have had. The first one failed after the second year. I purchased an extended warranty on this one.

…so I have no experience with it, I’m only posting this to note that the 2017 version of this product does NOT use NiMH batteries but Li-ion, and it recharges via USB port (IOW 5V not 12V). The packaging claims a 7 hour runtime, down from the original.I chose the 2017 version because I’m hoping the recipient will appreciate being able to charge it from any USB port and microUSB cable rather than only being able to use the special chargers/cables it (the original model) came with…
