This is not the only tape that you should own, but it should be in the top two. I am building a chain link fence and this tape is exactly what I needed. The Fat Max is 1 1/4 ” wide, 25′ long and extends to over 12 feet without support. While it is a hand full, it is perfect for big projects like fence building or framing. It does not blow in the wind and stays put when extended. Because it is stiffer than other tapes, you will be surprised how much easier it is to measure long lengths. It is a tape that everyone who is a DIY’er or in one of the building trades should have. It may be too heavy for smaller hands…so try it before you buy it!. Two thumbs up.

I have been testing one of the new model 25 foot Stanley FATMAX tape measures. It has certain positive features, primarily that it offers extended stand-out reach advertised at 13 feet. The value of this feature, however, is tempered by the extra weight and bulk associated with a 1 3/16″ wide tape. In addition, one of the features I have always liked about the Stanley tape measures is that the inside measurement of the case is exactly 3″. The case of this model is 3 1/8″ which is not an intuitive measurement to remember to add when doing inside measurements. The return spring is very strong and care must be exercised to not allow it to retract at full speed. Overall quality of the device is very good.

This measuring tape is extremely strong. If you are the type that extends it in long lengths to reach an area to measure then this measuring tape is for you. I extended it 15′ without it bending. This is really great if you work alone with out some one to help you measure. This tape is extremely strong and should hold up in a contractor’s hand for a long time. The end is also reinforced and this is usually where a tape measure breaks. I think Stanley did a great job in designing and building this tape measure.

Heavy duty and large easy to read numbers in 1/16 th inch increments. The black and yellow color makes it easy to see if you lay it down at the work site. The first 6 inches of the tape are reinforced to make it last longer. Strong belt clip on the side, and a place on the back to put in a strap if you want to hang it. This tool is assembled in the good old USA, a rarity for tools these days, and a good reason to choose it. Thanks, Stanley.

The tape grabs when drawing back in and starts peeling after a couple months.

Best tape I ever used

Best tape measure I’ve ever used. Only gave it 4 stars because they don’t la jist as long as I wish they would. But they’re better than the classic fatmax, and way better than any other tape.

The ergonomics of this tape measure are great. It fits in your hand comfortably without feeling too bulky. The standout to 13 feet is awesome. The blade will still break down at shorter distances depending on how your holding the tape measure, but overall it still works good. The first one I purchased fell off a eight foot ladder and the internal plastic mechanism that holds the tape in place when locked broke. This meant I could no longer depress the external lever to lock the blade at a specific distance. I was a little disappointed in this because sometimes its necessary to lock the blade at a specific distance when taking measurements and marking on the material. I did like the overall design though, so I purchased a second one. Overall this is a good tape measure, but just be cautious of dropping it because almost the entire product is made of plastic components that aren’t very well protected.
