Not the best for being well sharpened out of the box for the money. Harbor Freight quality, I thought they would be better being Stanley.

Really like the handle on these, very comfortable.

I bought this for a small wood project and it worked great, but my straight chisel chipped over time. The rest of the tools did its job!

This carving set are brutes heavier and less refined than some of my other sets. They come unpolished so I polished one which took a bit to do not sure if I will do the others or just keep them as sort of a rough-in set. Otherwise they are well built and I believe they could take a literal beating!

If using for wood work I would recommend getting a hammer with it but its a great set overall. Tools came very sharp and ready to use. Also looks nicer in general

Stanley’s Wood Carving Tool Set is a good, sturdy product that can and will do the job. Just one minor complaint that will come after the good stuff. This is a good tool set because the steel blades keep their sharp edge. So you won’t be doing a lot of sharpening on these tools. The selection is handy because it allows you to work in broad and tight spaces on your project. And the large wooden handles help you stay in control and not slip and cut your other hand. Don’t ask how I know about this. Another good feature is a little more subtle. The long shanks on the blades allow you to actually see what your carving. Most wood carving tools provide short blades that require your hand to be close to the work and blocks your view. My only minor complaint is an issue that seems to be common to wood carving tools. The metal collars that pretend to hold the blade in the wooden handles simply do not stay in place and they come loose. The solution is simple. Just take your pliers and squeeze the collar back in place. But this puts a scar on your tool one would rather not have. Still, Stanley makes this carving tool set available in a timely fashion because I am in the middle of several wood carving projects and I was working with a cheap short blade carving set. This Stanley set beats my cheap set and I am glad I got it. Thank you Stanley.

These carving chisels feel like cheap metal, not quality tool steel. Edge retention will be an issue.

My 1st impression of the Stanley chisels is the steel is pretty good they sharpened well IF that tells you anything about quality. The handles are a little bit slick for me so I roughed them up with some sandpaper and sealed them with some Tung oil that seems to work better for me all in all. I’d say they are a good set and I will use them.

I got this set over a month ago, it is a great variety of tips, handle is very sturdy and you can work with them for long periods of time, no problem. They are a great starter kit, highly recommended it.It came on a case that I have being reusing to store them.

Though I’ve bought a couple of cheaper sets through the years I find this set to be a little bit better as the tools edges need less sharpening. I have used these on a couple of diamond willow walking sticks, pine and basswood plaques, so they get the job done indeed!

It was a gift for my son and he loved them.

I have only gotten two of the 6 to work. Not sure if it is because they need sharpening or not, but I would expect that they would be sharpened and ready to use. I was able to complete my project in time for Christmas but I expected much better tools than I got.

As a carpenter, woodworker and, knife maker I am a good one to evaluate this set. This set is good for the hobby person but is not on a pro level. The grinding lacked attention to detail and curves were irregular with a ragged edge. I am concerned the steel is not hard enough, it certainly isn’t the 59 to 61 I demand in a chisel. The blade metal and Rockwell hardness should be clearly marked on the outside of the package!

These are great for knocking off hangers and chipping out wood precisely when I don’t want to run for the plunge cutter. I think these will serve me well for years to come.

Great size for small carvings. Come with an edge but definitely not sharp. Just polish on stone and their good to go. Seem to hold edge well on softer woods. Haven’t tried on hardwood yet. Good buy for price.
