The Stanley 6-piece wood carving set includes the basic specialty tools for detailed wood removal and contouring. The natural wood handles optimize comfort and provide stability for precision word working. Each blade is tempered and precisely ground for cutting strength and edge retention. This set includes 1/2 in. straight chisel, 1/2 in. skewed chisel, 1/4 in. straight chisel, 1/4 in. v-parting chisel, 1/4 in. bent gouge chisel, 1/2 in. curved flat chisel.

I have had this set for about a month now and have only used them a couple of times but they have done a great job every time so far. I dont know how the sharpness is going to last but I have always had a good experience with Stanley tools in the past. I am confident from using them so far that they will perform as well as all the other Stanley tools I have used over the years. .

This is a nice starter set for someone who wants to start tinkering around with carving. Enough variety for you to get a feel for how each works with out going broke. This set gave me enough tools to carve some 8″ numbers (a date) on the timber frame I am building. They are solidly built so durability should not a concern.As is true on any edged tool, they arrive “factory” sharp, not “woodworker” sharp. So expect to spend some time perfecting the edge before you use them. A sharpening stone and leather strop will get the job done and you will have razor sharp edges.

This is a good hobbyist set. Chisels have nice balance in the hand. I’ve been wanting to carve a wood sign for my garden and these are perfect for that use. The tempered steel edges are not evenly sharp; they are irregular and not ground well. I will have to sharpen four of the six chisels. The packaging is flimsy; the plastic tray tore in three places just in removing and replacing them from the exterior box. That is a shame because these tools are something I don’t use everyday and was hoping to store them in the original packaging. Overall quality is good at a hobbyist level.

These were extremely sharp right out of the box and cut everything I tried to carve on. The only complaint I have is that one of the chisels was rusted on the carving edge when it came out of the box so I had to do some cleanup and sharpen the edge again. I would some rust protection during shipping for this product.

These are a good set of carving chisels and gouges if you are just getting started and carving something very small. They need to be honed to start but that is true of almost any sharp hand tool. They hold an ok edge. Nothing to rave about but work for a beginner carver.
