Stark Metric allen bit socket set (13-Piece) review. The fit and finish is good; no mars or uneven edges; the sizes fit as marked. The bits come in a blue plastic case which stands out when in my tool bag or tool box, making the set quick to find when needed. The bits are secure and don’t rattle around in the case. The one possible issue with the case is the hinge – it’s just molded plastic and may break over time. So far, it’s been fine. The socket bits themselves work well in both my cordless power ratchet and my standard hand ratchet. However, the socket ends are not all of one drive size – the smaller units take a ¼” ratchet, the mid-sized units take a 3/8” ratchet, and the largest requires a ½” ratchet. Of course, adapters can be used. It’s an unusual kit in that regard, most sets I’ve seen have either one drive size or another, not all three. The upside is that these bits will fit into a remarkably small kit box, considering that there are 13 bits included. It took a few minutes for me to adjust to the idea but in practice it works well (assuming you have either all three ratchets on hand, or adapters for the ratchet that you’re using).Stark makes other, similar kits; I’ve acquired one each of the ‘short’ and ‘long’ SAE kits and am finding them to be of similar quality. I’ve labeled the blue cases with black marker so it’s easy to grab the right box as needed.A potential problem is the warranty; while Home Depot offers their standard 90-day return warranty, the manufacturer only offers a 30-day warranty and a 60-day parts warranty. Nearly all of my other hand tools have “lifetime” warranties against defects. That’s the reason for the ‘good’ rating instead of 5 stars; the tools themselves seem to be fine but the short warranty period is unusual these days.HTHRegards,Jim

I had a set years ago which my son borrowed and forgot to return. Anyway, this set appears to be nicer. The old set used an Allen screw to lock in the point into a socket. Occasionally those would loosen, and I actually lost the point off of one. These units have Allen points bonded into place, and appears to be robust. I haven’t had the opportunity yet to put high torque on one of the big sizes yet. I have no reason to suspect they will not hold. These units have the Allen size stamped on the socket, which is nice. You will want to have straight handle socket drivers, ideally both the ¼” and 3/8” size.

A quality Stark product made in China. This 13pc Hex Bit Metric Set is made of chrome-vanadium. It’s tensile strength is particularly high compared to other alloys. The ideal tools for automotive DIYers and pros. This set comes with seven shallow 1/4″ drive sockets, 2, 2.5, 3, 4 , 5, 5.5, and 6 mm. Five 3 /8″ drive sockets, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 12 mm. One 1/2″ drive socket, 14 mm. Each socket and hex bit is etched with it’s size, which is a nice feature. Each socket has its own press-in-place spot within the carrying case. Note: these sockets are not to be mistaken for impact resistant products.

As most people I use the typical Allen “L” shaped keys for dealing with Allen screws. In some instances this is inadequate, either because the key isn’t strong enough to take the torque or available keys are too small. This set is something that I will not use too terribly often but will come in extremely handy in some instances. I like that these bits are compatible with a socket set. My only complaint is that the carrying case could be a little more durable but it is still pretty good and sufficient for my needs.
