The black 3.5″ SATA Hot-Swap Bay for Dual 2.5″ HDD from StarTech allows you to install two 2.5″ SATA hard drives or solid state drives in a single 3.5″ bay. It comes with a “no mounting required/easy eject” feature (like a tape cartridge or floppy disk).
The HDD hot-swappable bay doesn’t require the drives to be installed in a tray. To maximize performance and utilize the speed potential of SATA III hard drives, this HDD backplane supports SATA III for transfer speed of up to 6 Gb/s when paired with a compatible controller. It is fully compatible with RAID installations to ensure maximum performance and versatility for enhanced storage applications.
This backplane is suitable for operating system image deployment or any task that requires quick access to large volumes of data.

Thought this looked like good product, very disappointed! Doesn’t eject the drives…I’ve tried drives by Intel, Micron, and WD…none work or fit correctly. Now my drives are scratched up from prying them out of the slots.

It seems to be understood that ‘hot swap’ means the ability to remove a HDD while the PC is **powered on** In your attached user guide, it clearly says at the top of Page 3 : “Please note: It is strongly recommended that the computer be POWERED DOWN when removing drives from HSB220SAT25B, as removing drives while in use can damage the drive and any data contained within.” Is there some other device that needs to be connected between this and the PC to ensure the drives are powered down before they are removed??

I’ve been using these hot swap drive bays for many years, we’ve sold hundreds of them with all the PC’s we build. They have gotten better as time went by, but the best improvement was made recently. Startech added clip retainer slots for the SATA cables. Now when we connect the SATA cables the clips “click” and stay securely in place. Before this improvement we had to perform a number of techniques to hold the cables in place. This was always the weak link in our systems. Way to go Startech, you are definitely listening and improving your products!
