I purchased the unit to use instead of having to plug earphones or a small computer speaker around the back of my computer located under my desk. I plugged it in the usb port on the front and the sound was thin but worked. Unfortunately, the earplug cable put stress on the plug and the metal jack that goes into the USB port, broke away from the board inside the jacks plug.

I bought this because I was needing a USB audio card with stereo input. This card has the standard mono mic jack that is typically found on these type cards. There was some information in the B&H description that led me to believe it would have a stereo input so I purchased it, granted with fingers crossed but very hopeful that I’d found a rare gem. After several tests on two separate computers that do have stereo cards built in this one remained obvious that it was not or going to have a stereo USB Mic input. Other than that, it is a good USB auido device. Output is stereo, but not the input.

It does it’s job well but you have to be careful how you handle it. The PCB soldering in my unit was weak so it broke and I had to get it replaced but that might have been a unit issue. Use a usb extender cable to be on the safer side, it comes with one.

It is a good adapter, but the usb part is very strong.

The product works without any drivers in OSX or Linux. (I assume this would be true in Windows too, but I have not tested.) The USB vendor ID is: 0d8c The USB product ID is: 013c The manufacturer is C-MEDIA. The cap provided is somewhat useless.

I have a few pretty good 1/8 jack microphones and discovered that their connector ring pattern is not compatible with the pattern on the combo input/output audio jacks on new computers. The USB adapter card/connector is a complete solution. It travels with me wherever those mics go.
